Weather Report - April 25, 2013

Drying Out for Thursday and Friday

It sure was a rocky start to Wednesday -- a Tornado Watch for the entire WAFB viewing area, a series of Tornado and Severe T-Storm Warnings posted through the mid and late morning, and rains of 2" or more for some WAFB neighborhoods! Fortunately, while the local flooding was a morning headache for many commuters, there were only reports of limited damage with no injuries reported in any WAFB communities. The clouds will stay with us into the evening and overnight, but we say goodbye to the rain for at least a couple of days. Sadly, after a dry Thursday and Friday, rain creeps back into the forecast for Saturday and Sunday. -- Jay Grymes / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - April 23, 2013

Rain Returns for Wednesday

Gulf moisture will slowly increase at the lower levels this evening and overnight: that along with a decent deck of clouds will keep Baton Rouge lows for Tuesday morning in the low 60°s. Highs return to the 80°s for Tuesday afternoon under a mix of sun and clouds. We could see a blip or two on Titan9 Doppler radar on Tuesday afternoon but the vast majority of WAFB neighborhoods will stay through the day and evening. A cold front is expected to push across the Bayou State on Wednesday, delivering rains on the order of 0.5” to 1.0”, but we do not anticipate a severe weather outbreak with this mid-week system. -- Jay Grymes / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - April 22, 2013

Perfect Weather Couldn't Last Forever

It was certainly one of the best weather weekends we've had in quite some time, but some changes are in the works for the work week. It still might be a touch cool to start Monday as lows are forecasted to be near 50°. Southerly flow will return Monday afternoon allowing for things to moisten up and also warm up. Partly cloudy skies will be possible Monday but we should stay dry. A slight rain chance returns to the forecast Tuesday afternoon as a few iso’d showers could be possible. Highs will be in the mid 80°s, but that will be our warmest day of the week. That’s because our next cold front arrives on Wednesday bumping the rain chance into the likely category and cooling us down a couple of degrees. The front will likely stall along the Gulf Coast keeping a 20-30% rain chance in the forecast to end the work week. A disturbance will move into the area on Saturday helping to push the front farther away, but it also will bump up rain coverage to 40% Saturday into Sunday morning. - Jeff Morrow / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - April 15, 2013

Foggy Start to the Work Week

The heavy rains from early Sunday will lead to areas of fog overnight into Monday morning. Some spots could get dense. The weather for the first half of the work week will be mainly dry, but also warm and humid. Southerly winds will continue to pump in the moisture and warmth causing morning lows to only drop down near 70° and highs in the mid to upper 80°s by afternoon. A spotty shower will be possible Tuesday and Wednesday, but don’t count on rain in your backyard. You can count on rain late Wednesday into early Thursday as our next cold front moves through the area. The cooler and drier air on the backside of the front will result in some great weather to end the week. Morning starts next weekend will be in the upper 40°s with daytime highs in the low to mid 70°s under mostly sunny skies. - Jeff Morrow, WAFB Storm Team

FW: Westher Report - April 11, 2013

Tornado Watch has been issued for West Feliciana Parish until 3:00pm.

T-Storms, Some Possibly Strong on Thursday Morning

An approaching cool front will deliver widespread showers and t-storms to the area near or shortly after daybreak on Thursday. A few strong to severe storms appear possible, with the main threat being damaging winds. Rain totals will likely average 1" to 2" across the area, with locally higher amounts possible. Wet weather should come to an end for most by early afternoon on Thursday, with big improvements in our weather by Friday! In fact, for the second week in a row, it looks just about perfect for Friday evening's Live After Five. And the weather looks equally nice for Saturday's Baton Rouge Blues Fest. However, scattered showers and t-storms return to the forecast on Sunday and will remain possible through much of next week. - Steve Caparotta / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - April 10, 2013

Windy Again Today

It’s going to be yet another windy day Wednesday as we could see gusts in the 30 mph range this afternoon. The warm, moist air will continue to pump in thanks to southerly winds resulting in humid weather today and early Thursday morning. Enough instability will be present today to trigger sct’d showers and t-storms. Rain coverage will increase slowly as we move into the evening and overnight hours. Thursday morning a cold front will push through the area triggering a possible squall line of strong to severe t-storms. Heavy rain will also be possible as the line of storms pushes past South Louisiana. We turn dry and slightly cooler by Friday. We stay dry and nice on Saturday with only a slight mention of rain to close out the weekend Sunday. The weather turns warmer and remains slightly unsettled for the following work week. - Jeff Morrow & Diane Deaton / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - April 8, 2013

Winds on the Breezy Side Monday

Some patchy morning fog will be possible on Monday, but it shouldn’t get very dense. Morning lows and daytime highs should continue a warming trend into the first half of the work week. Morning lows Monday will be near 60° with daytime highs in the low 80°s. Winds will be on the breezy side Monday and Tuesday especially during the afternoon. A very slight chance for rain will exist on Tuesday with nothing more than a spot or two on radar. Wednesday and Thursday will have the higher rain chances in this week’s forecast. Sct’d t-showers will be possible Wednesday as a storm system approaches. A cold front will push through the area on Thursday resulting in a likely chance for showers and t-storms. Some storms could be strong to severe. We dry out and cool down slightly by the end of the week. Next weekend will be a lot like this weekend with a mix of sun and clouds and mild temperatures. - Jeff Morrow / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - April 4, 2013

Clouds Linger on Thursday

Clouds and the chance for a few showers will linger into Thursday. Fortunately, the threat of heavy rains has ended...so we'll just keep a 20% chance of isolated showers in the forecast. Otherwise, with the lingering cloud cover, Thursday's highs will once again only reach the mid 60°s around metro Baton Rouge. Big improvements are expected in our weather by Friday as an upper-level storm system shifts to our east. Look for clearing skies and pleasant temps, with afternoon highs in the low 70°s. It will be a little cool for the first Live After Five of the spring in downtown Baton Rouge, but at least we'll stay dry. Dry weather continues into the weekend and temperatures will gradually warm-up as our winds shift to the south. Look for a return of rain chances for the early to mid portion of next week. - Jay Grymes & Steve Caparotta / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - April 2, 2013

AM Fog, Iso'd PM Showers on Tuesday

Areas of morning fog are a good possibility once again to start out on Tuesday. The remainder of the day will feature partly to mostly cloudy skies, isolated showers (maybe a rumble of thunder), and highs in the upper 70°s. A series of upper-air disturbances moving parallel to a front stalled in our vicinity will result in good rain chances from Wednesday into at least the first half of Thursday. Severe weather doesn't appear to be a big concern, but locally heavy rainfall will be possible, with 2" to 4" of rain not out of the question. Our weather should improve markedly by Friday, with drier conditions and warmer temps returning over the weekend. - Jay Grymes & Steve Caparotta / WAFB Storm Team
