Weather Report - January 31, 2013

Mainly Clear, Cooler Rest of This Week

Mainly clear skies and cooler temps are on tap for the remainder of the week in the wake of a cold front. Morning temps will range from the mid to upper 30°s on Thursday and Friday, with afternoon highs in the lower 60°s. Some clouds are expected to return on Saturday and while we'll keep the forecast dry for now, an isolated shower can't be completely ruled out. We'll take another look at that possibility tomorrow. Any slim rain chance would likely end very early on Sunday, with sunshine and comfortable temps to close out the weekend. We'll put a slight chance of showers in the forecast next Tuesday with another cool front. - Jay Grymes & Steve Caparotta / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - January 29, 2013

Windy & Warm on Tuesday!

Strong southerly winds in advance of a cold front will push our high temperatures to near-record levels on Tuesday. We're forecasting a high of 80° for Baton Rouge and the record currently stands at 81°. Isolated showers and t-storms will also be possible from the afternoon into the evening. Showers and t-storms become likely overnight into the early morning hours of Wednesday as the front pushes through. A few storms could be strong to severe, with the primary concern being damaging winds, although isolated tornadoes can't be ruled out. Skies clear out on Wednesday and somewhat cooler air will settle in for the remainder of the week. - Jay Grymes & Steve Caparotta / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - January 28, 2013

No Big Weather Changes Monday

Monday morning fog should be patchy in nature for most with just a few areas seeing any dense fog. Temperatures will stay on the warm side during the afternoon with highs in the mid 70°s. Winds will be breezy at times. Fog should once again form early Tuesday with a chance for rain late in the day as the next storm system approaches. Showers and t-storms will be likely during the predawn hours on Wednesday as a cold front advances. Some storms could be on the strong to severe side. The weather then begins to turn cooler and drier once again to end the work week. Morning starts will be in the upper 30°s to low 40°s Thursday and Friday with highs topping out in the low 60°s under mostly sunny skies. A slow warm up will occur as we move into the following weekend. - Jeff Morrow / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - January 25, 2013

Temps to Stay Mild to Warm

A stalled frontal boundary is expected to move little over the coming days meaning most if not all will remain dry today and through the weekend. The front has stalled to the north which will also result in a spring-like feel to the weekend with temperatures staying much warmer than average. A few spots of fog will be possible Saturday and Sunday mornings with lows in the mid 50°s. Partly cloudy skies during the afternoon will yield afternoon highs in the mid 70°s. The warmer weather will continue into the first half of the work week. A cold front will push down into South Louisiana triggering sct'd showers and t-storms Tuesday and Wednesday. The front may push through late Wednesday allowing for a drier and cooler ending to the work week. - Jeff Morrow & Diane Deaton / WAFB Storm Team

Warming Up Next Few Days!

Our run of nice weather continues over the next couple of days, with plenty of sunshine and warmer temps on the way. Our morning temps will still be somewhat cool -- but nothing unusual for January -- while highs will climb into the 70°s on both Wednesday and Thursday. Mild temperatures continue into Friday, but we'll also see the chance of a few showers as our next cool front approaches. The front should slide through by early Saturday, leaving clearing skies and cooler temps in its wake for the weekend. Warmer weather, along with a few showers, are expected to return early next week. - Jay Grymes & Steve Caparotta / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - January 17, 2013

Most Wintry Precip Stays North

An upper-low will produce wintry precipitation across parts of the Deep South late tonight into Thursday, but it looks like most of the WAFB viewing area will miss out. The best chance of seeing any wintry weather will be from near the LA/MS line into SW Mississippi, with the most likely timing being from about midnight through 6 AM on Thursday. Significant accumulations are not expected for our viewers. However, with temps expected to be near freezing early Thursday, watch out for some slick spots on bridges and elevated roadways. Otherwise, we look forward to sunshine finally returning on Thursday! In fact, it looks like sunshine will stay with us for a while, with temps gradually warming into the weekend! - Jay Grymes & Steve Caparotta / WAFB Storm Team

Rains Finally Diminishing on Wednesday

We can finally see a 'light at the end of the tunnel', with rains diminishing over the next 24 hours. We still expect scattered showers overnight into Wednesday morning, but rains should come to an end for most of us by Wednesday afternoon/evening. It will be yet another chilly day though, with highs only reaching the mid 40°s for most...although it will be a bit warmer south of Baton Rouge. Sunshine finally returns by Thursday and should stay with us into the weekend! Look for cold morning starts, but afternoon temps will gradually climb into the lower 60°s by Saturday and Sunday. Our next cold front arrives early next week with a slight chance of showers. - Jay Grymes & Steve Caparotta / WAFB Storm Team

More Disagreeable January Weather!

Well, at least we got a little break (for part of the weekend), from all the wet weather of the past several days! It was also very windy and unseasonably warm Saturday and Sunday - with afternoon highs pushing into the mid/upper 70s. However, once this latest front moved through, temperatures dropped dramatically Sunday afternoon and scattered moderate/heavy rain returned across southeast Louisiana and southern Mississippi. And, since it appears the aforementioned front is stalling along our coastal waters, even "more" wet weather is in the forecast tomorrow, Wednesday and Thursday! Plus, we'll be significantly colder, too - highs only in the upper 40s/lower 50s - overnight lows dropping into the mid/upper 30s much of this week! - Diane Deaton, WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - January 14, 2013

Cold Temperatures and More Rain in the Forecast

A cold front as advanced through the area ushering in some chilly temperatures. Rains are also ongoing and should continue that way into Monday. Rain will stay likely Monday and Tuesday with an additional 1-2” possible. A Flash Flood Watch will likely be extended through a portion of the work week as a result of these new rainfall projections. We might even be dealing with sct’d showers for Wednesday and parts of Thursday now as the storm system slowly exits the region. Temperatures will stay rather chilly thanks to all the rain and cloud cover. Don’t expect temperatures much higher than the 40°s over the next several days. Finally by Friday things will begin to dry out and warm up. We are actually expecting a fairly nice weekend ahead. Highs will be in the low 60°s Saturday and Sunday with plenty of sunshine. - Jeff Morrow / WAFB Storm Team

FW: Weather Report & Road Closures

Flooding Concerns Next Few Days

** Flash Flood Watch in effect for most of the WAFB viewing area through 6 PM on Thursday **

24 hour rainfall totals have been very impressive with 3-4" being very common with even a few spots getting 4-6"! Needless to say flooding is a big concern across the area today and tomorrow. Periods of heavy rains will continue to occur adding to already high rainfall totals. The weather will turn mostly dry on Friday as the main storm system pushes to the northeast of the area. The mainly dry weather doesn't last long. A new storm system will arrive just in time for the weekend causing more wet weather and even t-storms. Sct'd showers and t-storms stay in the forecast from Saturday through the first half of the next work week. - Jeff Morrow & Diane Deaton / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - January 8, 2013

Clouds, Wet Weather Returning

It was nice to enjoy some sunshine to start out the week, but clouds and rains are quickly returning to the forecast. Look for generally overcast conditions by the time you wake up on Tuesday, with lows in the mid 40°s. And while the day should start out dry, rains -- along with a few t-storms -- will increase late in the day into Tuesday night. Wet weather appears as though it continues into the early part of Wednesday, although the second half of the day may break somewhat of a break in the rains. However, another round of showers and t-storms is expected by Thursday afternoon/evening as a cool front approaches from the west. The front likely stalls before ever reaching us, leaving the chance for a few showers in the area on Friday and Saturday. Yet another round of significant rains appears possible by Sunday with a stronger cold front. Keep an umbrella handy this week! - Jay Grymes & Steve Caparotta / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - January 7, 2013

Cold Start to Monday

Skies have been slow to clear after Sunday morning’s rains, but we’ll see clear skies overnight leading to a cold morning start to Monday. Morning lows will be in the mid to upper 30°s so bundle up the kids as they head back to school. Monday will see plenty of sunshine leading to a very nice afternoon with highs in the low 60°s. A warm front will push into South Louisiana late Tuesday leading to a few sct’d showers and t-storms. Higher rain chances will exist Wednesday and Thursday as a storm system develops and moves overhead. We won’t see completely dry weather to end the week as a weak cold front will stall across the area Friday and Saturday; that will lead to iso’d showers being left in the forecast and mild temperatures hanging around. A stronger cold will move through late Sunday bringing back sct’d showers and t-storms. - Jeff Morrow / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - January 3, 2013

Hoping for a Little Sun on Thursday!

Scattered light showers will remain possible overnight, but most of the rains should exit the area by Thursday morning. We're hoping to see some breaks in the clouds on Thursday, but we'll still call it mostly cloudy with highs topping out in the mid 50°s. A sun/cloud mix and cool temps are once again expected on Friday. Some uncertainty remains, but we'll put scattered showers in the forecast on Saturday. For now, rain chances are posted at 30%, but it's possible we may have to nudge those upward in the next day or two. Otherwise, look for generally cool weather to continue through the weekend. - Steve Caparotta / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - January 2, 2013

Scattered Showers Hang Around Next Few Days

Rainfall has diminished in intensity as we've moved through the day, but we've seen some spots pick up more than 1" here in the metro area and more than 3" in Southwest Louisiana. We may pick up another 0.50" or so before the day is over as rains continue to push to the SE. Wednesday and Thursday won't be complete wash outs as we keep a few sct'd showers in the forecast. The weather will certainly be damp and dreary as clouds hang around and temperatures turn chilly. We finally see some sun on Friday, but temperatures will remain cool. An iso'd showers may be possible Saturday as a weak disturbance passes. The remainder of the week and start of next week should be mainly dry with warming temperatures. - Jeff Morrow, WAFB Storm Team
