Weather Report - June 29, 2012

Hot Days - Summer in the City!

Again this morning, we're starting out in the mid/upper 70s ... ending up with an afternoon high in the upper 90s ("heat index" 100 - 105 degrees!). A ridge of high pressure continues to be the culprit - and that means a large part of the country is also sweltering under the ongoing oppressive summer heat! A stray shower can't be totally ruled out during the afternoon hours, but most of us will stay dry through the weekend. By early next week, we'll put a 20% - 30% chance for rain in the forecast; hopefully, a few neighborhoods will finally see some very welcome rainfall! - Diane Deaton, WAFB Storm Team

Will Feel Like 100's Today

** Ozone Action Day Again Today **

The weather will remain hot and humid through the rest of the week. Obviously the best way to beat the heat is to stay indoors with the A/C, but if you have to be outside be sure to stay hydrated. Highs will stay in the mid to upper 90°s through the weekend. By the end of the weekend we may see an iso'd t-shower. A few sct'd showers and storms will be possible by the middle of next week allowing for highs to decrease a couple more degrees. Morning starts over the next 7 days will bounce around the low to mid 70°s. - Jeff Morrow & Diane Deaton / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - June 27, 2012

Ozone Action Day

Now not only must we worry about the heat, but air quality has become a concern. An Ozone Action Day has been declared as ozone levels will be high for those with sensitive breathing issues. Another record high will be in jeopardy today. Highs will climb towards the triple digits Wednesday, but may stay in the mid 90°s for the rest of the week. We'll stay mainly dry during the next several days. We finally will introduce an iso'd shower to the forecast beginning Sunday and continuing into the work week. - Jeff Morrow & Diane Deaton, WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - July 26, 2012

Heat Stays in our Forecast!

As Tropical Storm Debby continues to move VERY slowly to the east (landfall in northern Florida) extreme "heat" will be our weather story throughout the upcoming week! In fact, yesterday's high of 101 degrees at metro airport was not only a record for the date, it was our hottest day since Aug. 18, 2011! Unfortunately, with that ridge of high pressure overhead, hot and mainly dry weather will continue ... today's forecast high is 99 degrees, the record for today is 100 degrees set back in 1930! And, it appears the heat will stay with us over the course of the next several days - with only a "slight" rain chance the latter part of the weekend, into early next week! - Diane Deaton, WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - June 25, 2012

Debby Moves Away, Heat Moving In

It appears as though Debby has made up her mind and is not longer a direct threat to Louisiana. Debby is now forecasted to stay nearly stationary for a few days before moving north into Florida later this week. For us that means the forecast turns really hot with muggy conditions. Highs the next few days will be in the upper 90°s. Feel like temperatures will be well into the triple digits for most of the afternoon hours. Very little rain is expected over the upcoming week with only a few spotty to iso’d t-showers. - Jeff Morrow/ WAFB Storm Team

Westher Report - June 22, 2012

Staying Hot and Muggy

It’s getting hot outside these days. Highs are climbing towards the mid 90°s and will reach there by the weekend. It’s a mainly dry forecast but we may see a few spotty shower Saturday and again on Tuesday. This low chance for rain will do nothing to cool us down. Expect highs in the mid 90°s for the next 7 days. Conditions will also be very muggy with feel like temperatures in the triple digits during the mid afternoon. We are still watching a broad area of low pressure in the Southern Gulf of Mexico. We have a lot of uncertainty on how strong and where exactly this system will get. We’ll of course keep an eye on things for you. - Jeff Morrow / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - June 21, 2012

Yep...It Feels Like Summer

We’ll call it “warm” today as highs will actually stay right in line with the average high. We hit 91° today with highs in the mid 90°s by the weekend. The hotter weather doesn’t look to have any relief in sight as we stay mainly dry for the next 7 days. A spot or two of rain will be possible on Titan 9 Doppler each afternoon, but most if not all of us will stay dry. Morning starts will also start to climb in the mid 70°s by the end of the weekend. A tropical wave is pushing into the Central Gulf of Mexico. We will keep an eye on this unorganized system, but all indications are that it will not cause any problems for us locally. -- Jeff Morrow / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - June 20, 2012

Summer Begins on the Hot Side

Summer officially begins this evening, but it will already feel like summer this afternoon. Highs will top out in the low 90’s today. We keep a warming trend going through the weekend. Highs will be in the mid 90’s by Friday. We’ll also stay dry as high pressure remains overhead. Morning starts will also begin to warm up over the next few days. We will remain mild Thursday morning with lows in the upper 60’s, but those lows will be in the mid 70’s by the weekend. Dry weather will last through the weekend with maybe a few spotty showers to start the next work week. - Jeff Morrow / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - June 19, 2012

Drier, Hotter Next Few Days

Drier weather settles in over the next few days as a ridge of high pressure builds overhead. As you are most likely aware, less rainfall means more heat. Highs will range from the lower 90°s Tuesday through Thursday to potentially the mid 90°s by the weekend. While little rainfall is expected through Thursday, we will have to keep an eye on a tropical wave moving into the Gulf late this week. Most indications are that the bulk of this system will stay to our south, but it may get close enough to provide slightly better rain chances from Friday into the weekend. - Steve Caparotta / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - June 18, 2012

Heating Up This Week

A weak disturbance moving toward the coast of SW Louisiana will help to keep a few showers and t-storms in our forecast through the day. We've got rain chances posted at 30%, with highs topping out in the upper 80°s to near 90°. High pressure will gradually strengthen overhead as the week progresses, leading to hotter and drier conditions. Rain chances will be 20% or less each day from Tuesday into the weekend, with highs climbing into the low to mid 90°s. - Steve Caparotta / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - June 15, 2012

Sct'd T-Showers Today

Showers and storms have held off early this morning but we are expecting some sct’d showers and t-storms later this morning into the afternoon. A drying trend will occur as we move into the weekend. Coverage of t-showers will remain limited both Saturday and Sunday. Highs will be back in the 90’s as we begin next week. Morning lows will also be more in line with average conditions in the low 70’s. Rain coverage will be more summer-like with pop-up isolated to scattered afternoon t-showers. - Jeff Morrow / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - June 12, 2012

Scattered Storms Today, Some Strong

Keep the umbrellas handy with scattered showers and t-storms possible at just about any point in the day. Storms will generally move north-to-south -- a trajectory that often results in not only more lightning, but an increased threat of severe weather. While there will be a threat of severe weather, rain coverage is only expected to be around 40% or so, meaning at least half of you probably won't get any rain. Decent rain chances continue on Wednesday as a cool front stalls just to our north. Look for lower rain chances late in the week into the weekend, with highs continuing to top out in the lower 90°s. - Steve Caparotta, WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - June 11, 2012

Drier, Hotter!

Drier air will briefly settle in today, leading to less rainfall and more heat. We'll keep rain chances below 20% into the afternoon, with highs soaring into the lower 90°s. Rains quickly return to the forecast for the remainder of the week, although we're not expecting the activity to be as widespread or as heavy as what we saw late last week into the weekend. Set daily rain chances around 40% from Tuesday into Friday, with highs continuing to top out in the lower 90°s. - Steve Caparotta / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - June 8, 2012

Make Plan "B" Preps for Weekend Activities

*A Flood Watch is in effect until Sunday Evening for most of the WAFB viewing area.*

It's expected to remain wet the next couple of days as a stalled frontal system stays in place to help aid in the development of showers and storms. Rain chances will stay elevated through the weekend. Upwards of 2-3" of rain will be averaged with locally higher amounts possible. Afternoon temperatures won't be as warm thanks to additional clouds and rain. A chance for sct'd showers and storms will continue as we move into our next work week. -- Jeff Morrow & Diane Deaton / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - June 7, 2012

A Few More Storms for Rest of Work Week

Certainly keep the umbrellas close by this week and weekend. Another round of afternoon sct'd showers and storms will be possible today and tomorrow. Some patchy morning fog will be possible the next few mornings, but it shouldn't cause any problems. Highs will remain in the low 90's until the weekend. That's when shower activity is expected to increase, yes increase. Showers and storms will be on the likely side Saturday and Sunday. That should keep highs in the upper 80's. Even as we move into the next work week we'll keep a sct'd mention of showers and storms. -- Jeff Morrow & Diane Deaton / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - June 6, 2012

Limited Rain on Titan 9 Doppler Radar!

It's another mainly dry but steamy June morning; however, a disturbance should help keep the chance for a little wet weather in our forecast over the course of the next several days! For now, we expect a 30% chance of afternoon showers and perhaps a few storms this afternoon ... and likely again tomorrow, this same basic forecast will hold. However, rain chances go up and stay in the range of 50% Friday through the weekend. Even early next week, a decent chance for areas of scattered showers/storms will remain in our extended outlook! - Diane Deaton, WAFB Storm Team

Perhaps Umbrella Weather Coming Up!

The heat and humidity have returned and they'll be with us all week and on into the weekend. But the good news ... much needed rainfall is in the forecast over the course of the next several days! Today's rain chances are rather slim, at only 30%; but Wednesday offers a much better chance at 50%! And don't forget, our hurricane special, "The 5th Season: 2012" ... *tonight* at 6:30!!! - Diane Deaton, WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - June 4, 2012

A Hot and Humid Early June

After a wonderful start Saturday morning (cooler, low humidity), we've started to experience (again) increasing heat and humidity! This morning, watch out for a few areas of patchy fog ... after that, our Monday weather will include hot, humid and mainly dry conditions. It looks as if the chance for a spotty shower will be in our forecast tomorrow (20%), with the better chance arriving Wednesday and Thursday (40% - 50%). A stalled frontal boundary will remain in place across the majority of our viewing area over the course of the next several days ... which means (at least) a slight rain chance continuing Friday/Saturday. - Diane Deaton, WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - June 1, 2012

Beautiful Start to the Month of June!

Waking to a much different scan on Titan 9 Doppler radar ... compared to the stormy weather of yesterday afternoon/evening! Today, as we begin the lovely month of June (granted, the beginning too, of Hurricane Season), our forecast will reflect a quiet and mild forecast as we look forward to the weekend. In fact, enjoy a return of sunshine, lower humidity today and a high temperature of only 85 degrees; while tomorrow morning, it may actually be a bit on the "cool" side, a low of 59! Great weather continues during the day Saturday - a smidge more humidity returns Sunday! - Diane Deaton, WAFB Storm Team
