Weather Report - May 31. 2012

Chance of Rain for the End of May!

The good news ... partly/mostly cloudy skies and the chance of rain may help keep most neighborhoods in the upper 80's (for a change) over the course of the next few days! Today, we'll put a 40% rain chance in the forecast for later this afternoon/evening ... bump it up a bit overnight to 50% ... less than 20% Friday morning. So, look forward to less humidity, at least Saturday, in the wake of that late season cool front. However, muggy/steamy weather will likely return the latter part of the weekend ... with a few showers/storms back in the forecast early/middle of next week! - Diane Deaton, WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - May 30, 2012

Highs Again in the 90's!

Looks like the heat and humidity will literally "stick" around again today ... and again this afternoon, we'll top out in the lower 90s! At least a few neighborhoods may receive a bit of wet weather but at best, rain chances are only in the range of 20% - 30% . As we mentioned earlier, a disturbance moving southward from the northwest, will help keep that wet weather chance alive through the end of the week - so, we'll may see some activity on Titan 9 Doppler radar. Perhaps a bit of a change ahead in another direction ... daytime highs should "only" reach the upper 80's tomorrow ... and we may actually enjoy a bit of a break from the humidity Friday/Saturday! - Diane Deaton, WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - May 29, 2012

Steamy Final Days of May ...

At midnight, we recorded a temperature in the upper 70s ... pre-dawn hours, we dropped into the lower 70s! However, add another twenty degrees, or so, and we'll wind up with an afternoon high back in the lower 90s. Not much rainfall expected to pop up on Titan 9 Doppler radar, short-term, but we'll put at least a 20% chance in the forecast tomorrow/Thursday ... increase it to 40% Friday. T.D. Beryl continues to weaken slowly as it meanders into southern Georgia - is currently quite a rainmaker for Florida and Georgia - and will likely impact the outer banks of the Carolinas, before heading out into the open waters of the Atlantic later this week! - Diane Deaton, WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - May 25, 2012

Memorial Day Holiday Heat ...

It's generally known as the "unofficial" start of summer, but you have to admit, this Memorial Day holiday weekend will feel A LOT like summer has already arrived! Early morning temperatures will start off in the upper 60s to lower 70s - winding up with afternoon highs pushing into the mid 90s both Saturday and Sunday. And, speaking of, be careful in the heat this weekend - beginning tonight with Live After Five ... continuing with the big Bayou Country Superfest! There "could" be an isolated shower pop up on Titan 9 Doppler radar during the afternoon Memorial Day Monday; other than that, the next time we mention rain in the forecast isn't until the middle part of next week! - Diane Deaton, WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - May 24, 2012

Lots of Heat, Little Rain!

Strengthening high pressure will likely mean little in the way of rainfall as we head towards the "unofficial start of summer". Not only that, it will also result in even hotter temperatures for the Memorial Day holiday weekend. We can't rule out a stray shower, but most of us will stay dry this afternoon through the course of the next several days. So, if you have outdoor plans this weekend, please remember to stay hydrated and take frequent breaks from the sun. We'll put a slight chance of showers/storms back in the forecast next Tuesday and Wednesday (20%). - Diane Deaton, WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - May 22, 2012

High Temperatures Stay in the 90's!

Waking this morning to a quiet scan on Titan 9 Doppler radar ... unlike yesterday afternoon/evening when rather strong storms pushed through some neighborhoods! Overall, a more settled forecast is on tap for much of southeast Louisiana and southern Mississippi - not only for the next few days but through the upcoming Memorial Day holiday weekend. Expect afternoon temperatures to top out in the low to mid 90s ... and, as far as any additional rainfall is concerned, the next mention of significant rain (20%!) isn't until Memorial Day Monday! - Diane Deaton, WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - May 21, 2012

Unofficial Start to Summer Coming Up!

After a rather warm, mainly dry weekend it appears we'll continue with the trend of very little rainfall and temperatures "heating up"! A weak cool front will sweep through our viewing area later today ... triggering a few spotty showers/storms. We'll keep the ever-so-slight possibility for rainfall in the forecast tomorrow; however, after that, there's no mention of any significant wet weather for the remainder of the week through the upcoming Memorial Day weekend! By then, we may well anticipate afternoon highs in the mid 90s - indeed, the "unofficial" start to the summer season coming up! - Diane Deaton, WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - April 18, 2012

Toasty Next Few Days

We should break that 90° mark today with abundant sunshine. The heat will certainly be on during the afternoon, but the humidity may wait a day or two before becoming really evident. Morning starts will continue to be on the pleasant side with lows in the mid 60’s. Highs will stay at or near 90° for the next 7 days. A few clouds will be present during the weekend, but we should stay mainly dry. A ridge of high pressure will remain in control keeping things hot and mainly dry as we move into next week. A few showers will be possible Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons as the ridge weakens slightly. - Jay Grymes & Steve Caparotta / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - May 17, 2012

Turning Warmer Today

The weather turns drier and warmer as we end the work week. High pressure will now dominate the local forecast. The morning starts will continue to be rather nice. Morning lows will be in the mid 60’s. Highs will approach 90° today under mostly sunny skies. The abundant sunshine could result in highs in the low 90°s across the viewing area Friday. Clouds will begin to increase during the weekend as southerly flow of the Gulf of Mexico begins. This will maybe drop afternoon temperatures a couple of degrees. Rain will make a small return by mid week. Iso’d showers and storms will be possible next Tuesday and Wednesday. - Jeff Morrow / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - May 16, 2012

DEQ Declares First Ozone Action Day!

For the first time this year, DEQ has declared an "ozone action day" for our area ("Code Orange" air quality). Those folks with respiratory distress should take extra precautions today. Otherwise, a very weak disturbance, moving through the viewing area, will provide the chance for a few showers/storms later today (40%). After today though, mainly dry weather, along with warmer and more humid conditions, return for the rest of the week ... and likely on through the weekend (highs in the upper 80s, lower 90s)! Weather Report - May 14, 2012

Warming Back Up This Week

It looks like we're in store for a fairly quiet run of weather through the week. Morning temps will remain pleasant the next few days, generally starting out in the lower 60°s. However, our afternoons will gradually warm up through the week, with highs climbing from the mid 80°s Tuesday into the upper 80°s/near 90° by the end of the week. We can't rule out a spotty shower Tuesday or Wednesday, but most of us should stay dry. In fact, mainly dry weather is expected right on through the weekend. - Jay Grymes & Steve Caparotta / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - April 2, 2012

Finally, Rain on Titan 9 Doppler Radar!

It's been quite awhile since we've had much activity on Titan 9 Doppler radar - much less, during the morning hours! While we're not expecting severe weather, some brief heavy rainfall is possible later today ... setting chances at 60% - 70%, and with the added cloud cover, we may actually stay "a bit" cooler, in the mid 80s! However, relief in the form of rainfall will, once again, be harder to come by as we move through the end of the week into the weekend. Rain coverage will be more of the isolated variety (20%) Thursday into Sunday, with highs returning to the upper 80s. Little change in our very warm May weather is expected into early next week. - Diane Deaton, WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - May 1, 2012

Lack of April Showers ... What about May Flowers?

Look for patchy morning fog the next several days with morning temps in the mid to upper 60°s, followed by warm afternoons in the mid to upper 80°s. While rain chances remain quite slim today, we will see a little better chance of showers and t-storms the rest of the week as some tropical moisture moves inland from the Gulf. Warm and humid conditions will continue into the weekend, with a few afternoon t-showers each day. - Diane Deaton, WAFB Storm Team
