Weather Report - April 30, 2012

Unseasonably Warm Late April!

Areas across southeast Louisiana/southern Mississippi waking to some patchy fog and somewhat warmer than normal morning temperatures. In fact, it looks as if the end of April/early May will continue the trend of very warm afternoon highs - in the mid to upper 80s! We'll reintroduce a 20% rain chance tomorrow; however, starting Wednesday, the ridge of high pressure will weaken allowing for a better chance of little wet weather (40%) ... 20% chance returns Thursday, back to 30% for Friday! - Diane Deaton, WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - April 25, 2012

Sadly, No Record Low Today!

Yes, indeed, a very nice (and seasonal) start to another April day - though not anywhere close to a record low (42, set in 1910) like yesterday morning! Nonetheless, enjoy the return of a spring warming trend over the course of the next several days ... we're back to afternoon temperatures in the mid 80s; early morning lows generally in the low to mid 60s! Basically, warm and breezy, with a tad more humidity through the first part of the weekend; by Sunday, we'll introduce a slight rain chance (20%) that will stay with us through early next week! - Diane Deaton, WAFB Storm Team

An April Cool "Snap"!

Yes, indeed, it's a chilly spring morning throughout southeast Louisiana and southern Mississippi! As of the 6:00am hour, we have "officially" tied the record low for today's date ... 45 degrees ... tying the same previous record set in 2005! Though it's one for the record books, there's still the possibility we could set a new record withing the next hour, or so! However, temperatures will begin to rebound rather quickly (both early lows and daytime highs) - in the mid 70s today; back to the 80s as early as tomorrow and on through the weekend. Next rain chance, not until Sunday/Monday (20% chance)! - Diane Deaton, WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - April 23, 2012

  Great Spring Weather Ahead ...

A weak cool front is on the move - pushing southward and bringing to south Louisiana/southern Mississippi a surge of very cool April air! This morning, we're starting off in the upper 40s - lower 50s; subtract another handful of degrees tomorrow and we may well end up with a new record low for metro Baton Rouge! With a forecast temperature of 44 degrees, that will be enough to squeeze past the previous record low of 45, set in 2005! Overall, a warming trend will begin Wednesday - both in the morning and afternoon - as a southerly wind flow returns. Highs will top out in the mid to upper 80s; morning lows in the 50s/60s and don’t expect rain anytime soon (perhaps 30% by Sunday)! - Diane Deaton, WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - April 20, 2012

Pleasant Spring Morning ...

Nice weather continues on tap today, although it will may be just a tad warmer and a bit more humid! In fact, we're starting off in the mid 50s - on the way to the lower 80s, under increasing clouds. The weather should be ok for tonight's "Live After Five", in downtown Baton Rouge; however, the chance for showers/storms arrive late tonight/early Saturday in association with a cold front/low pressure ... 40% rain chance early should give way to decreasing showers/clouds during tomorrow afternoon. It will also turn breezy and much cooler over the weekend - highs only in the 70s! - Diane Deaton, WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - April 19, 2012

More Brilliant Spring Weather!

After a gorgeous spring day yesterday, it looks as if our weather today will be just about a carbon copy ... the only exception, a tad bit warmer! Under sunny skies, our high will top out in the lower 80s; however, we'll begin to notice a few changes within the next 24 - 35 hours ... increasing humidity and a few more clouds by Friday afternoon. And, it's overnight Friday into the day Saturday that the chance for showers/storms return to the forecast (50%) - courtesy of our next front. This latest round of wet weather likely won't last too long ... drier weather returns Sunday into early next week. - Diane Deaton, WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - April 17, 2012

One More Rainy Day ...

Courtesy of a very slow moving cold front, showers/storms will stay in our forecast for one more day. In fact, a portion of southeast Louisiana continues under a "flash flood watch" (including metro New Orleans) through the afternoon ... while much of our viewing area can still expect to see anywhere from 1" to 3" of rainfall. Skies will clear and drier weather will settle in tomorrow and Thursday before the chance for more rain returns to our forecast late Friday/Saturday. Looking forward to cooler morning starts both Sunday and Monday (40s - 50s!). - Diane Deaton, WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - April 16, 2012

Heavy Rains Possible Monday and Tuesday

Showers and storms are on the way and should arrive in the WAFB viewing area Monday morning. We won’t see the potential for severe weather like the plains and Midwest saw, but we can’t rule out one or a couple of strong or severe storms in our area Monday and Tuesday. A cool front will slowly push through the viewing area allowing for the possibility of very heavy rains. The heavy rains will be the primary weather issue over the next few days with totals anywhere from 1-3” locally. We should begin to clear up and dry out Wednesday with cooler morning temperatures and lower humidity. Another front will push through Friday afternoon into Saturday morning triggering a few scattered thunder showers. Things will turn cooler by weekend as the front passes. -- Jeff Morrow / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - April 11, 2012

Watch for Showers/Storms Later Today!

A somewhat revised forecast is now calling for a 40% chance of showers/storms ... higher instability values and a slow moving frontal boundary will be the focus for a little wet weather today. However, after tonight (and a 20% rain chance), our rain chances diminish ... under partly cloudy skies, it will be "cooler" tomorrow (in the lower 80s) with no mention of any significant rainfall Friday through the upcoming weekend! - Diane Deaton, WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - April 10, 2012

Warm, Spotty Showers Today!

Waking up today to a few areas of patchy fog ... and mild temperatures, in the upper 50s to lower 60s! A weak cool front slowly sinking into the area from the north will provide the chance for a few showers/storms over the course of the next few days. This afternoon/tonight, a 20% chance - bumping up slightly to 30% Wednesday afternoon! Even though the boundary should actually be to our south by Thursday, it may be close enough to still trigger a few showers (30% chance). However, mainly dry weather returns for Friday and Saturday, with a gradual increase in temperatures and humidity into the weekend. - Diane Deaton, WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - April 9, 2012

Nice Monday Ahead ...

Watch out this morning for a patch, or two, of fog during your early commute. Otherwise, a nice spring day is on tap for south Louisiana/southern Mississippi - mostly sunny skies this afternoon with a high again in the mid 80s. Really no mention of wet weather today; however, it looks as if we'll see an increase in rain chances over the next few days. A 40% chance for showers/storms will be possible Tuesday; a 20% chance both Wednesday/Thursday, due to a stalled frontal boundary. The front will push through south Louisiana late in the week, allowing for drier weather by Friday as well as the upcoming weekend! - Diane Deaton, WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - April 3, 2012

Afternoon Storms Return

While we're hoping Tuesday's weather won't be as active as Monday's, there will be the potential for a few strong to severe storms by this afternoon. We'll set afternoon rain chances at 40% to 50%, with highs topping out in the mid 80°s. Elevated rain chances will continue until a slow-moving storm system finally bypasses the area by late Thursday. Easter weekend will remain somewhat warm, but a modest reduction in humidity should make things a bit more comfortable outdoors. We now have the forecast dry from Friday right into Easter Sunday. - Steve Caparotta / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - April 1, 2012

Scattered Afternoon Storms

An upper-air disturbance approaching from the south should trigger scattered showers and t-storms by this afternoon. Temperatures climbing into the mid 80°s could fuel a few strong storms, with the potential for hail and gusty winds. Tuesday's weather should be quite similar, with patchy fog in the morning followed by scattered afternoon showers and t-storms. Best rain chances are expected on Wednesday as a slow-moving cool front approaches from the west. Scattered rains will linger into Thursday, but drier weather should settle in for Easter weekend. - Steve Caparotta / WAFB Storm Team
