Weather Report - December 31, 2012

Slightly Warmer on New Year's Eve

The weather will turn warmer on New Year’s Eve Monday. Morning lows will be well above freezing at or near 40°. Afternoon highs will top out in the low 60°s. While we can’t guarantee a completely dry New Year’s Eve, most will stay dry meaning outdoor nighttime festivities will be just fine. Rain returns to the forecast on New Year’s Day Tuesday as a storm system moves overhead. Rain will be likely with periods of heavy rain possible. Severe weather is not anticipated from this next system. Rains will hang around on Wednesday and Thursday as the system stalls. Rainfall totals could average 1-3” across the viewing area raising some threat for flooding. The weather turns drier on Friday with below normal temperatures. High pressure will stay in control through the weekend resulting in a dry and warming weekend. - Jeff Morrow / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - December 26, 2012

Much Quieter, Colder Today

The severe storms that hit portions of the area on Christmas Day are now well to our east, leaving behind much colder weather. Mostly cloudy skies Wednesday morning should give way to sunshine by the afternoon. Despite the sunshine, highs will struggle to reach 50° for many of us. Thursday starts out with a light freeze across much of the area, followed by partly cloudy skies and highs in the mid-upper 50°s. Low pressure develops along the Texas coastline on Friday and heads in our direction, bringing a return of showers and t-storms by late in the day. While we're not expecting anything close to what we saw on Christmas Day, a strong storm or two can't be ruled out. Rains should end well before sunrise on Saturday, with cool conditions returning for the final weekend of 2012. - Steve Caparotta / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - December 21, 2012

Cold Weather Hangs Around

It was a cold morning start Friday with lows in the mid 30°s for most locations. The weather won’t immediately turn warm this time around. Highs Friday will top out in the mid to upper 50°s. A calm wind and clear skies will lead to another cold morning start Saturday with a light freeze possible in and around Baton Rouge. Highs on Saturday will stay very nice in the 60°s. A warming trend will begin on Sunday and continue into Christmas. Highs Monday and Tuesday will be in the 70°s, but the unChristmas like temperatures will be the least of our worries as t-storms are likely Christmas Day. That’s a result of a passing cold front. The weather will settle down a bit later in the week as temperatures drop again. -- Jeff Morrow / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - December 20, 2012

Gradual Clearing and Cooler Rest of Today

The rocky weather arrived just like we expected early Thursday. Wind gusts in Baton Rouge topped out at 49 mph at times. The good news is the stormy weather is now well to the east and we await clearing skies and a continuation of cold temperatures. Temperatures won't change much the rest of the day staying in the 50°s. A light freeze will be possible Friday and Saturday mornings thanks to the influx of colder air. We will see a warming trend start Saturday afternoon. Our next storm system regrettably arrives during the Christmas holiday. Sct'd showers and t-storms will be possible Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and the day after. - Jeff Morrow / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - December 18, 2012

Cooler Mornings, Mild Afternoons

We'll see cooler morning starts for a couple of days in the wake of a front that pushed through on Monday, but afternoon temps will remain quite mild. Look for temps to start out in the low-mid 40°s on Tuesday, with highs climbing to near 70° under plenty of sunshine. Clouds increase and temperatures will be mild on Wednesday, but it looks like we'll stay dry during the daylight hours. However, showers and t-storms are expected to return late Wednesday night into Thursday morning in association with our next front. We'll continue to monitor trends, but a few strong storms can't be ruled out at this point. Skies should clear by Thursday afternoon and give way to much cooler weather. Lows will drop into the 30°s for Friday and Saturday mornings. The extended outlook points toward a potentially mild and wet Christmas, but we'll fine tune the details as the week progresses. - Jay Grymes & Steve Caparotta / WAFB Storm Team

Still Some Strong Storms Expected Late Tonight

There remains a threat for severe weather late this evening into the predawn hours Monday for the Baton Rouge area. A cold front will slip through South Louisiana Monday morning ushering in stable and drier air ending rain coverage by the late morning hours. We stay dry and slightly cooler on Tuesday, but warmer weather returns quickly on Wednesday. A stronger cold front will arrive early Thursday with sct'd showers and t-storms. Much colder temperatures will be behind this front leading to cold morning starts Friday and Saturday with lows in the mid 30°s. The weather turns warmer again by late next weekend. - Jeff Morrow / WAFB Storm Team

Goodbye AM Freezes...Rain This Weekend

Friday morning will deliver another chilly start, but it looks like just about everyone will stay above freezing. Look for clouds to increase through the day, with highs climbing into the upper 60°s. The warming trend continues this weekend as our winds shift around to the south. Morning temps will range from the mid 50°s on Saturday to the lower 60°s on Sunday, with highs in the low-mid 70°s. We'll only mention a spotty shower in the Saturday forecast, but showers and t-storms are likely by Sunday as a cool front approaches. Look for some rain to linger into Monday morning before skies gradually clear and give way to slightly cooler weather for the mid portion of next week. - Steve Caparotta / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - December 11, 2012

Winter is back!

After a round of rough weather on Monday morning, winter has finally returned to south Louisiana. Colder air filtering in from the north will result in morning lows in the 30°s through the remainder of the week. Highs will climb from the mid 50°s on Tuesday to the mid-upper 60°s by Friday. A disturbance passing through the area will likely keep a good deal of cloud cover around on Tuesday. However, sunshine should become more prevalent for the remainder of the workweek. It looks like our next chance of rain will come late Saturday into Sunday with the passage of a cool front. - Jay Grymes & Steve Caparotta / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - November 28, 2012

Cooler Weather Hangs Around for a Few Days

An annoying foggy mist hung around last night into the morning start today. But that mist will leave behind some very nice weather by afternoon. Sunshine will be bright this afternoon with highs settling in the low 60°s. Temperatures will be cold early Thursday as morning lows dip into the mid to upper 30°s. As we move into the afternoon on Thursday winds will shift to a warmer southerly flow. That will help a warming trend occur as we roll into late week. Enough moisture might be present to squeeze out a spot or two of rain Friday and Saturday as an upper level storm system passes. Otherwise expect partly cloudy and mild conditions for the weekend. Our next cold front will occur by the middle of next week. Sct’d showers and t-storms are currently in the forecast for next Tuesday. - Jeff Morrow / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - November 26, 2012

Wet Weather Possible Next Few Days

Things are expected to get warmer over the coming days as southerly winds pump in warmer and moister air. Moisture will build ahead of our next storm system. Iso’d showers will be possible early Monday leading to sct’d showers and t-storms by afternoon. Showers and t-storms will be likely late Monday into early Tuesday as a cold front moves through South Louisiana. The weather once again turns cooler by late Tuesday with temperatures near normal for mid week. Yet another warming trend is expected to end the week. A frontal boundary is expected to stall to our north on Friday. That will keep clouds and iso’d showers in the forecast starting Friday and carrying over into the weekend. - Jeff Morrow / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - November 19, 2012

Clouds Return Monday, But Weather Remains Nice

The most notable change to the weather for the short work week will be the return of clouds. Bright sunshine was in overabundance over the weekend, but an upper air disturbance will pass to the north of the area bringing back some fair weather clouds. Skies will remain clear for the early morning start to Monday with a low in the low 40°s. Skies will remain fair to partly cloudy Monday and Tuesday. A slight warming trend will occur with both morning lows and daytime highs over the coming days. Clouds will take a backseat to more sunshine Wednesday and Thursday as high pressure works back into the area. Temperatures will remain relatively unchanged through the remainder of the week with lows in the upper 40°s and highs in the low to mid 70°s. Conditions will also remain dry during the next 7 days. - Jeff Morrow / WAFB Storm Team

Lows Saturday and Sunday will stay in the low 40°s with highs approaching 70°. The next work week will continue this modest warming trend. Temperatures will stay around average with lows in the upper 40°s and highs in the low 70°s. A slight chance of rain exists late Tuesday as a storm system passes well to our north. - Jeff Morrow & Diane Deaton / WAFB Storm Team

Slight Warm Up As We Roll Into Weekend

Temperatures are expected to remain cool for the next few days. Highs will struggle to reach the mid 60°s today, but a slight warming trend will begin to end the week. Morning lows Friday and Saturday may actually stay out of the 30°s...we're still likely to see the low 40°s though. Game day weather for LSU is looking very nice. Things will be cool for morning and evening tailgates. The game will start right at daytime high temperatures near 70°. The second day of the weekend will be just as good as the first. No rain is in the forecast until we get into next Tuesday. Sct'd showers and t-storms will be possible. - Jeff Morrow & Diane Deaton / WAFB Storm Team

Cool and Sunny Days Ahead

Today should be a little less breezy and a little less cloudy. A passing upper level system which brought us the clouds is beginning to exit the region. Temperatures will remain cool with highs in the low to mid 60°s through the remainder of the work week. Thursday and Friday mornings will be chilly once again with lows in the upper 30°s to low 40°s. A modest warming trend will occur during the weekend. Highs look to return to maybe the 70°s which is near normal for this time of year. Conditions will stay dry for most of the next 7 days. We may see a few sct'd showers and storms next Tuesday as our next storm system approaches. - Jeff Morrow & Diane Deaton / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - November 13, 2012

Stays cool for the next few days!

The rain moved out early in the day, and by Monday afternoon most of us were under the sunshine. Our forecast remains mainly dry through the coming weekend, while today's cool-down reminds us that it is mid-autumn! The cool-and-dry air mass that moved into WAFB communities through the day on Monday turns downright chilly later tonight. Tuesday sunrise temps will drop into the mid 30°s for metro Baton Rouge, and that means pockets of wake-up frost for areas along and north of the I-10/12 corridor. Our forecast keeps morning lows in the 30°s through Thursday, with a slow warm-up setting in for the latter part of the week and the weekend. -- Jay Grymes / WAFB Storm Team

Warming Trend Upcoming

It was one of the coldest starts of the season this morning with a low of 37° in Baton Rouge. We'll warm up into the upper 60°s today, with mid 70°s tomorrow, and low 80°s by Saturday. Yep you guessed it, a warming trend is on its way. The weekend looks to stay mild and mainly dry. We may see a spotty afternoon shower on Sunday, but you probably won't need a plan "b" if you have outdoor plans. A cool front will arrive on Monday bringing sct'd showers and t-storms back into the forecast. Things should dry out and cool down over the following days. - Jeff Morrow & Diane Deaton / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - November

Fantastic Hump Day Weather

Today will be a day completely filled with sunshine. The bright sunshine will lead to a slightly warmer afternoon with highs in the low 70°s. A reinforcing shot of cooler air will occur later today. That means another chilly start Thursday with lows in the low 40°s and highs in the upper 60°s. A warming trend will occur as we move into the weekend. We'll stay dry for Friday night lights and both LSU and Southern games Saturday evening. Highs will be in the 80°s by Sunday. Our next cool front will arrive by the start of the next work week. Expect sct'd showers and t-storms Monday into Tuesday with cooler temperatures moving in by next Tuesday. - Jeff Morrow & Diane Deaton / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - November 5, 2012

Another Round of Sct'd Storms Monday

We’ll take a break from the sct’d showers and storms early Monday, but we do think a return of sct’d storms will occur during the late morning and remaining PM hours. Another stronger cool front is expected to push through late Monday allowing for things to clear out and cool down by Election Day Tuesday. Tuesday and the next couple of days following will have temperatures just below averages for time of year. Lows will be somewhat cool Wednesday and Thursday morning in the mid 40°s. A slight warming trend will then start Friday with highs back into the 80°s by Saturday. A slight chance for rain will be placed in the forecast for next Sunday as our next cool front approaches. - Jeff Morrow / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - November 2, 2012

Foggy Start, Warm Afternoon

Morning fog has been rather dense today. That fog will dissipate by late morning leading to a warm Autumn day. Highs will climb into the mid 80°s under mostly sunny skies. Saturday will start off with fog once again. Then as we move into the afternoon we do have a very slight chance for rain. Don't count on any rain of consequence though as the rain chance will be 10%. A little higher rain chance of 30% will occur on Sunday as a cool front pushes through South Louisiana. We might even see an iso’d shower to start Monday. Things will then turn cooler and drier for the remainder of the week. The weather on Election Day will be particularly nice! - Jeff Morrow / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - October 31, 2012

Warmer for Halloween!

A warming trend commenced Tuesday afternoon and will continue through the remainder of the week as an upper-level ridge of high pressure gradually builds in from the west. Wednesday gets off to a milder start in the mid 40°s and highs will soar into the upper 70°s under mostly sunny skies. Weather looks great for Trick-or-Treaters Wednesday evening...look for temps to fall from the mid 70°s into the mid 60°s as the evening wears on. Warm and dry weather is expected through at least Friday. We'll toss in a very slim shower chance on Saturday, but rain likely won't be an issue for LSU football. Better rain chances are expected by Sunday as a cool front approaches. - Jay Grymes & Steve Caparotta / WAFB Storm Team

Rains will likely be gone in time for the morning commute, giving way to plenty of sunshine and lower humidity on Thursday! High pressure will produce a nice run of weather right on through the weekend. Morning lows will range from the upper 40°s to mid 50°s, with highs ranging from the upper 70°s to lower 80°s. Next Front Arrives Early Thursday

High-level clouds continue to stream in from the west thanks in a large part to outflow from the eastern Pacific’s Hurricane Paul. You may note a little rain over Texas this afternoon and evening as a weak upper-air disturbance interacts with the high-level moisture, and that disturbance is expected to slide to the east later this evening and overnight. So we might see a few sprinkles later this evening and overnight -- mainly to the west of the Atchafalaya Basin and possibly along the coast -- but “dry” is the forecast into Wednesday for the vast majority of the WAFB viewing area. Our next front arrives early Thursday, sweeps through in the morning, and leaves us with a great looking forecast for Friday through Sunday! -- Jay Grymes / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - October 16, 2012

Early Showers ... Clearing, Sunshine Returns!

Monday morning's front moved south and over the coastal waters before mid-day, leaving us with a fine Monday afternoon with highs topping out in the low 80°s and a nice drop in the humidity. Lows will drop to the low to mid 50°s for most WAFB neighborhoods by Tuesday morning, with afternoon highs on Tuesday climbing to about 80° for the Capital City. But as the day progresses, you may notice a few more mid- and upper-level clouds as Pacific moisture -- much of it linked to the Pacific’s T.S. Paul -- streams in from the west. Our next front is currently scheduled to arrive early Thursday, but the preliminary signs suggest that Thursday's front will pass with little or no active or severe weather in the WAFB viewing area. -- Jay Grymes / WAFB Storm Team

Cool Front Passes Overnight

A cool front will sweep through South Louisiana early Monday morning. We might see an iso’d shower or two before the front passes, but most will stay dry. Drier, less humid air will begin to work into the region Monday afternoon. Highs will still be in the mid 80°s but it will feel more comfortable. Tuesday and Wednesday will see morning lows dip into the mid 50°s. A stronger cool front is then forecasted to move through on Thursday. Sct’d showers and t-storms will be possible as the front moves through. Temperatures will see a decent dip thanks to cooler Canadian air behind this frontal boundary. Lows may even reach the upper 40°s early Saturday. -- Jeff Morrow / WAFB Storm Team

Warm Weather Through the Weekend

The warmer weather will hang around for a few more days until a weak cool front moves through on Monday. We stay dry today and Saturday with highs in the mid to upper 80°s. Patchy morning fog will still be in the forecast for the next couple of morning starts. We’ll stay dry on Saturday which is very important to Southern and LSU fans. The front won’t lead to too much rain on Sunday and Monday. Iso’d to sct’d showers will be possible late Sunday into early Monday. A slight cooling trend will occur as we work through the first half of the work week. Another, stronger cool front is expected to push through towards the end of next week. -- Jeff Morrow / WAFB Storm Team

Ridge Builds Keeping Things Warm and Dry

Things will warm as we go through the coming days, but it will still be nice weather to get outside. A ridge will begin to strengthen causing morning starts and daytime highs to warm some as we move into the weekend. Highs will be in the mid to upper 80°s with lows in the low to mid 60°s. The high will keep things dry through Saturday too. Late Sunday into Monday a disturbance will drop a very weak frontal boundary into the area bringing a slight chance of rain to the forecast. Spotty to iso'd showers will remain in the work week forecast. -- Jeff Morrow & Diane Deaton / WAFB Storm Team

Goodbye, Autumn Chill!

Metro Baton Rouge's "taste of the 40°s" is over, at least for the time being. A weakening "cool" front sags into the WAFB viewing area on Wednesday, but it fizzles out before it can generate any rain. Nor does it provide us with a reinforcing surge of cool air. So it looks like the 50°s and 60°s for lows for the rest of the week and right through the weekend. And it will be the mid and upper 80°s for most of us through the next five to seven days. Cool Starts Monday and Tuesday

The next few morning starts are going to be rather cool. The kids will need some jackets for morning bus stops Monday and Tuesday. Mornings lows will be in the upper 40°s to low 50°s both days under mostly clear skies. Highs will remain very nice as well ranging from the mid 70°s Monday to the low 80°s on Tuesday as we see mostly sunny to fair skies. A warming trend will occur by mid week increasing temperatures to the mid 80°s for highs and the mid 60°s for lows. Clouds will increase during this time but we'll stay dry. Cool Down Still on Tap for Sunday

It certainly was a beauty of a day for Thursday ... and we dodged the air quality concerns (due to elevated ozone levels) that had been forecasted by DEQ. Friday and Saturday will be a bit warmer, with highs in the upper 80°s for most of the viewing area, but it stays dry. The anticipated cool front arrives late Saturday and it still looks like it will be a "mostly dry" front, with maybe a few light sprinkles, at best, for Sunday. Sunday and Monday will have a real autumn feel to them with morning lows in the 50°s and mid-day highs in the 70°! -- Jay Grymes / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - 10-04-2012

Drier and Warmer Rest of Work Week

A couple of showers have popped up along our extreme coastal parishes, but that is where they should stay today. Drier weather is expected over the next few days with warming temperatures. Highs today will settle in the mid 80°s with upper 80°s Friday and Saturday. Morning starts through Saturday will have some patchy fog and lows in the low 60°s. A cool front will pass South Louisiana late Saturday into early Sunday. Sunday's high will be 10-15° cooler than Saturday thanks to the cooler Canadian air behind the front. A spotty sprinkle is at most what the front may squeeze out in terms of rain chances. We stay cool for a few days before another warming trend occurs by mid next week. -- Jeff Morrow & Diane Deaton / WAFB Storm Team

Heavy Rains Exiting the Area

It appears as though the widespread wet weather has come to an end. We'll still carry a chance for a few iso'd showers and storms into early Monday morning. A cool front is then expected to push through bringing with it drier and cooler air by Monday afternoon. Highs will only top out in the mid 70°s do to mostly cloudy skies. Skies will clear overnight leading to a cool start to Tuesday and again on Wednesday. Morning lows both days will be in the mid 50°s. By late in the week things will warm up to around average temperatures for this time of year. Another cool front is forecasted to push through during the day next Sunday, but this front will only carry a spotty shower possibility. - Jeff Morrow / WAFB Storm Team

Wet Weekend Ahead!

Increasing moisture will lead to the chance for a few showers and t-storms on Friday. We'll set rain chances around 30%, with highs topping out in the upper 80°s. A cool front approaching from the north is expected to stall overhead this weekend, resulting in a couple of rather wet days. Rain is likely, along with a few t-storms, on both Saturday and Sunday. The cloud cover and rainfall should keep highs in the low to mid 80°s. The expected wet weather will likely mean a less than ideal day for tailgating and LSU football on Saturday. Rain chances should finally diminish early next week as the storm system begins to shift to our east. - Jay Grymes & Steve Caparotta / WAFB Storm Team

Then by afternoon a few iso'd showers will be possible. A likely rain chance will occur Saturday as a storm system moves over South Louisiana. The system is expected to stall on Sunday keeping about a 50/50 rain chance in the forecast. A few iso'd to sct'd showers will be possible for the first half of the work week, but temperatures will be nicer thanks to a passing cool front. - Jeff Morrow & Diane Deaton / WAFB Storm Team

Staying Warm and Mainly Dry for Now...

Dry weather will continue to prevail over the next couple of days. That is all thanks to high pressure staying in the neighborhood. As a result temperatures will remain warm with slightly humid conditions. The high will begin to move away by the end of the week bringing a 20% rain chance into the forecast Friday and a 60% chance on Saturday. An area of low pressure will drag a cool front across South Louisiana on Sunday keeping sct'd showers and storms in the forecast. Cooler and less humid air will begin to work into the area by the start of our next work week. - Jeff Morrow & Diane Deaton / WAFB Storm Team

More Warm Autumn Weather Ahead ...

Over the course of the past several days, we have reached an afternoon high at, or slightly above, 90 degrees! Patchy Morning Fog Monday

There will be very little change in the weather over the coming days. An anticipated cool front passage will not happen which will keep warm temperatures and slightly humid conditions in the forecast as we start the work week. Highs will top out again in the low 90°s Monday and Tuesday. Patchy morning fog will also be possible since drier air will fall to reach South Louisiana. The weather will stay dry over the first half of the work week. Thursday will introduce a chance at an iso’d shower or two. Slightly better rain chances will exist Friday and into the weekend. The increased cloud cover and rain chance should help drop highs a couple of degrees. - Jeff Morrow / WAFB Storm Team

Cool Front Arrives Tuesday

Isolated showers will remain possible overnight into Tuesday as we await the arrival of a cool front. However, widespread rains are now well to our east and any lingering rainfall through late Tuesday should be rather modest. We'll enjoy a nice stretch of autumn weather beginning Wednesday and continuing through the end of the week. Lows will dip into the 50°s, with highs generally in the low to mid 80°s. Somewhat warmer weather, along with a slight chance of showers, returns on Saturday in association with another cool front. Saturday's front should help to reinforce our nice weather, with cooler and drier conditions returning Sunday and persisting into early next week. Heavy Rain Likely Monday

We are certainly saying goodbye to the dry weather over the next 24 to 48 hours. A series of storm systems will impact the region bringing periods of heavy rains and even a few strong storms. The best chance for heavy rains will be late Monday morning into the early afternoon. Majority of the rain will fall on Monday, but we will keep a 30% chance for showers on Tuesday as we await another cool front passage. The front passes ending the rains with most people picking up an average of 1” with isolated spots picking up as much as 3”. Cooler and drier air will be behind the front making for a nice premature entrance to autumn. Fall officially arrives next Saturday and once again the weather will cooperate. -- Jeff Morrow / WAFB Storm Team

Mainly Dry Today and Tomorrow

We will stay mainly dry today and tomorrow. And while it will be hot with highs in the low 90°s, conditions won’t be as humid with dewpoints in the low to mid 60°s. Just a 10% chance for showers and storms on Saturday meaning we won’t see many weather problems for the LSU festivities. The second half of the weekend could be wet though. A trough will push into South Louisiana bringing sct’d showers and storms Sunday. An even higher chance for rain will exist on Monday as the trough moves overhead. A cool front will be on the heels of this trough and will usher in some nice weather by the middle of next week. - Jeff Morrow / WAFB Storm Team

The best rain chance over the coming days will be Sunday and Monday as a weak cool front enters the viewing area. The front won't leave behind any nice weather this time around. The only big change after the front passes on Monday will be somewhat drier weather by the middle of next week. - Jeff Morrow & Diane Deaton / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - September 12, 2012

Changes Will Be Felt Today

I suppose you could say it's back to reality today. Heat and humidity will begin to be felt today and we will bring in a slight chance for showers and t-storms. Highs will stay near 90° for the next several days and morning lows will also begin to slowly increase. A 20-30% chance for showers and storms will continue from today into the first half of the weekend. Another cool front will try to work its way into South Louisiana during the weekend. Rain chances will increase Sunday and Monday as the front moves overhead. The front will be nothing like this past front this time around. We won't see any noticable change in temperatures as we move through next week. - Jeff Morrow & Diane Deaton / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - September 11, 2012

A Terrific Tuesday!

Another unseasonably cool September morning and one more very nice afternoon before warmer and more humid conditions return through the remainder of the week! Early morning lows will bottom out in the lower 60s ("normal" is lower 70s) cool yes, but not enough to threaten the record of 55 degrees, set on this date in 1907! Over the course of the next few days, we'll notice a return of humidity/higher dewpoint and that increased moisture may allow for a shower or two. Rain chances will run about 20% for Wednesday, bump it up a bit Thursday and Friday (30%); but better chances for showers/storms are expected over the weekend (40%) as a weak cool front slides through our viewing area. - Diane Deaton, WAFB Storm Team

Monday, September 10, 2012

Weather Report - September 10, 2012

Monday is Another Beauty

We will have one more complete day of picture perfect weather. Monday will start out on the cool side with lows in the upper 50°s to low 60°s across the viewing area. Highs will once again top out in the mid 80°s. Things will begin to change on Tuesday afternoon as high pressure shifts east. That will usher in some warmer and more humid air back into the forecast. Highs will top out at or near 90° starting Tuesday and carrying through to the end of the work week. Rain chances will remain limited beginning Wednesday. Coverage might begin to pick up more once we enter the weekend as a cool front tries to move into the area. At this time it looks like the front will stall just to the north of the viewing area. - Jeff Morrow / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report 22, 2012

Temporary Relief from the Dog Days ...

The much advertised August cool front ,that pushed southward and stalled, triggered areas of spotty showers during the afternoon/evening yesterday! And, while we're not looking at any widespread rainfall on Titan 9 Doppler radar today or tomorrow (20%), there could still be a few isolated showers later in the day. However, another morning of lower humidity has certainly been quite pleasant ... the same holding true tomorrow, as well. Be prepared for a return to more "August like" conditions by the end of the week - more heat, humidity and a 30% - 40% rain chance both Friday and Saturday. - Diane Deaton, WAFB Storm Team

Tuesday, August 21, 2012

Weather Report - August 21, 2012

Is it Really August?!

A cool front ,that pushed southward and stalled, will allow us to enjoy a couple of rather pleasant August days! Lower humidity behind the front has rewarded us with temperatures in the the upper 60s this morning, and while afternoon highs will still top out near 90, the drier air should be noticeable! Tomorrow is forecast to be almost a repeat of today (slightly higher rain chance but still only 20% through Thursday) ... while "unsettled" conditions return just in time for the weekend. - Diane Deaton, WAFB Storm Team

Monday, August 20, 2012

Weather Report - August 20, 2012

Finally, Drier Weather in the Forecast!

After huge rainfall totals were reported throughout our viewing area this past weekend, it's nice to have "only" a 20% chance for any additional wet weather in the forecast for the majority of this week! Drier air filtering in will also mean less than a 10% rain chance tomorrow along with noticeably less humidity ... though we'll still ancitpate highs in the upper 80s to lower 90s. The summerlike pattern will start to return on Friday/Saturday ... heat and humidity increasing along with a chance for scattered afternoon showers/storms (30% - 40%). Diane Deaton, WAFB Storm Team

Friday, August 17, 2012

Weather Report - August 17, 2012

Wet August Days ...

It looks more apparent that a soggy weather pattern is taking shape as we head into another summer weekend. We'll set rain chances at about 60% today, with highs topping out in the lower 90s. And, as far as outdoor plans are concerned, be ready to dodge some raindrops ... rain chances increase to 70% both Saturday and Sunday! While it won't necessarily rain all day, locally heavy downpours are possible - and the forecast for early next week will largely depend on a nearly stationary front. So, that means we'll keep scattered showers/storms in the forecast (with a 40% - 50% chance) through late next week! - Diane Deaton, WAFB Storm Team

Thursday, August 16, 2012

Weather Report - August 16, 2012

Hard to Mow the Grass This Weekend

It's about to turn much wetter across most of the area. Increased rain chances will be in place for the next couple of days as a cool front works into South Louisiana. Thursday afternoon will see an increased coverage of about 40% while Friday and the entire weekend will fall in the likely category with a 60% coverage. A cool front is expected to push towards the coast on Monday which should allow for a lessening coverage of showers and storms to start the work week. We could even see slightly cooler temperatures too. - Jeff Morrow & Diane Deaton / WAFB Storm Team

Wednesday, August 15, 2012

Weather Report - August 15, 2012

Heat Remains Through Work Week

Temperatures will remain very hot and conditions will be very humid. Heat index values will be a concern again today as they climb to around 105°. A wetter pattern is shaping up as we head into the weekend. The remainder of the work week will only see sct'd afternoon showers and storms. A cool front will stall across the WAFB viewing area during the weekend keeping a 50-60% coverage of t-showers in place both Saturday and Sunday. This should allow for some cooler daytime highs thanks to the rain and additional clouds. A 40% coverage will remain as we move into the next work week. - Jeff Morrow & Diane Deaton / WAFB Storm Team

Tuesday, August 14, 2012

Weather Report - August 14, 2012

Hot Forecast Continues

Rain chances will remain fairly low for the next couple of days. We'll see only iso'd showers for today while a slightly better chance will exist Wednesday and Thursday. Highs will be in the mid 90°s to end the work week. A cool down will occur by the weekend because of higher rain chances. A 50/50 shot will be possible Saturday and Sunday with highs only in the low 90°s. Sct'd showers and storms will continue into the start of the work week. - Jeff Morrow & Diane Deaton / WAFB Storm Team

Monday, August 13, 2012

Weather Report - August 13, 2012

Back to work, Back to school, Back to rain ...

A storm system will keep a rather unsettled weather pattern in the forecast for our viewing area later this afternoon/evening, bumping up rain chances once again ... back into the "likely" category! As the week progresses, expect a 20% - 30% rain chance; however, another cool front is forecasted to move into South Louisiana late Friday into Saturday. That will bump up rain chances, back to 40% - 50%! Diane Deaton, WAFB Storm Team

Wednesday, August 8, 2012

Weather Report - August 8, 2012

40-50% Rain Chance Next Few Days

We should see a bit more coverage of showers and storms today as we expect sct'd afternoon showers and storms. That trend will continue to end the week as a weak cool front sweeps into South Louisiana. The big question is whether this front will make it all the way through our stall near the area. For now we'll call for a slow passage during the day Saturday. That will result in lower rain chances Saturday through Monday. By the middle of next week rain chances should go up again. - Jeff Morrow & Diane Deaton / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - August 7, 2012

Quiet Morning - Showers This Afternoon ...

We're waking to a MUCH quieter scan on Titan 9 Doppler radar than we experienced last night!! However, all in all, fairly typical early August weather is in our forecast ... scattered showers and storms the next few days (30% - 40%) and highs in the low/mid 90s. By Friday, we're back to a 50-50 chance; 20% - 30% Saturday and Sunday! - Diane Deaton, WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - August 6, 2012

Wet Start to Early August!

A decent chance of rain stays in the forecast as we start the work week (and "back to school" for EBR parish Wednesday!). A 50% chance will be possible today and tomorrow with most of the activity during the afternoon. A weak trough of low pressure and a frontal boundary, that will stall to the north of us, will keep an unsettled weather pattern alive the next 48 hours. By midweek and on through the weekend, we'll see a 30% - 40% chance ... afternoon highs in the low/mid 90s for the next several days! - Diane Deaton, WAFB Storm Team

Friday, August 3, 2012

Weather Report - August 3, 2012

First Weekend of August Ahead ..

Today, hot/humid again with only a 20% rain chance ... however, the chance for showers/storms will bump up this weekend as the ridge of high pressure weakens - 40% - 50% chance. From next Monday though midweek, expect a 30% - 40% chance for wet weather; daytime highs in the low to mid 90s. We'll continue to watch "Tropical Storm Ernesto", now beginning to move into the eastern Caribbean! - Diane Deaton, WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - August 1, 2012

Heat Advisory Again Today

A 'Heat Advisory' remains in effect through this evening as once again temperatures will top out in the mid 90°s with feels-like temperatures of 105-107°. The heat and humidity will continue all the way through the end of the work week. It remains to be seen whether the National Weather Service will extend the heat advisory further. Rain chances will get bumped up slightly during the weekend as the ridge of high pressure weakens. Sct'd afternoon showers and storms will be possible this weekend into early next week. - Jeff Morrow & Diane Deaton / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - July 30, 2012

Hot, Hotter, Hottest!

**Heat Advisory Until 7:00 PM**

Overall, we've pretty much "turned off" the water faucet and "cranked up" the heat for these last few days in the month of July! Due to a huge ridge of high pressure - controlling our weather - we'll see very little in the way of rainfall and a lot of afternoon temperatures pushing very close to record highs! And, even though our official high for today is forecast to reach 97 degrees (the record, 99 set in 1986); the "feels like" temperature will be more in the range of 108 degrees (or higher) for at least three hours! As a result, the National Weather Service has placed virtually our entire state (and southern Mississippi) under a "heat advisory" until 7:00 PM. Rain coverage will be rather limited, too through Wednesday (20% or less), a bit more favorable Thursday, at 40%! - Diane Deaton, WAFB Storm Team

NOTE:   Latest news from the NWS is that any thunderstorms this afternoon may be a little strong!

Weather Report - July 27, 2012

Final Days of July Hot, Scattered Showers ...

We'll continue to look for scattered showers throughout southeast Louisiana and southern Mississippi over the course of the next couple of days (50% chance today, tomorrow). However, by Sunday and Monday, the moisture content not as high,(the cool front all but washing out) resulting in only isolated showers (20%). And, summer heat will be quite obvious ... daytime highs in the low/mid 90's ... the "feels like" temperature over 105 degrees! - Diane Deaton, WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - July 25, 2012

  Summertime Heat and Humidity!

Looks as if the rain chance will stay in the spotty to isolated category today and tomorrow - thanks to a substantial ridge of high pressure to our north! What that means for southeast Louisiana and southern Mississippi is our afternoon high will continue to top out in the mid 90s ... but the "feels like" temperature will soar into the range of 105+! Overall, this ridge will likely weaken, a bit, allowing a cool front to move in (but probably stalling to our north); nonetheless, giving us a 40% rain chance Friday. - Diane Deaton, WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - July 24, 2012

Limited Rain Chances Rest of Work Week

A drier weather pattern is shaping up this week. Only spotty to iso’d afternoon t-showers are expected for the remainder of the work week. With the lower chance for rain, high temperatures will soar into the mid 90°s. Heat index values will reach the triple digits during most afternoons so please be careful if you are planning to be outside for extended periods of time. Rain coverage might creep up a bit for next weekend as a ridge of high pressure over the area weakens slightly. Expect sct’d showers and storms both Saturday and Sunday. The ridge is then expected to strengthen again into next week limiting rain chances. - Jeff Morrow / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - July 23, 2012

Hot - drier - end of July!

Finally, an opportunity to work in our water- logged yards ... all this week rain chances will, at last, drop into the range of 20% - 30%! That is, after today - when we still have a decent chance for a few scattered showers/storms (40%). However, the flip side to the drier weather will be hot and humid conditions ... highs will top out in the mid 90s virtually all this week - with "feel like temperatures" in the triple digits. Remember, folks that will be outdoors for extended periods of time this week should take the proper precautions!! - Diane Deaton, WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - July 20, 2012

Another Summer Weekend, Another Wet One?

Looks like we're not out of the woods yet as far as even more rain is concerned! The combination of disturbances approaching both from the east and north will lead to scattered/numerous showers and possibly locally heavy rainfall over the next couple of days. Later this afternoon, we'll bump up the chance for additional wet weather to 70% (in the "likely" category); 60% tomorrow! Overall, though, we should see rain chances returning to somewhat more "normal" summertime percentages, 30% - 40% by next week. However, that will also result in slightly hotter afternoon temperatures, back in the mid 90s! - Diane Deaton, WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - July 19, 2012

Showers and Storms Won't Go Away!

At least this morning, we're waking to a significantly quieter scan on Titan 9 Doppler radar ... compared to late last night when many neighborhoods experienced very wet weather! Overall, rain chances stand at 50 - 50 today, tomorrow and Saturday, we're back to 60%; 50 - 50 again Sunday. Afternoon highs will continue to push into the low/mid 90s ... heating up again early next week, when rain chances diminish to "only" 30%! - Diane Deaton, WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - July 18, 2012

Sct'd Showers Rest of Week

The brief ridge has begun to shift farther to the west. That will translate again into higher rain chances to end the week. Sct'd showers and storms will be possible for the rest of the work week. A trough and upper level low will provide for a potentially wet weekend. Rain chances will fall into the likely category Saturday. Highs over the next 7 days will hover just above the 90° mark, and morning lows will be in the mid 70°s. - Jeff Morrow & Diane Deaton / WAFB Storm Team

Tuesday, July 17, 2012

Weather Report - July 17, 2012

Drier Weather Today

High pressure will build in today allowing for mostly dry weather across the viewing area. We won’t be completely dry, but rain coverage will remain limited today and tomorrow. Rain coverage will slowly increase as we end the week and head into next weekend. It looks like the weekend will give us the best chance for rain with a 50% coverage of showers and storms. Highs the next few days will be in the mid 90°s with low 90°s to end the week. Morning lows the rest of the week will be in the mid 70°s. -- Jeff Morrow / WAFB

Weather Report - July 16, 2012

Has the Rain Gone Away?

Well ... not exactly - but, the chance for widespread coverage on Titan 9 Doppler radar is not as high as it has been! In fact, the "big rain system" (that pesky low pressure area) has now moved off to the west, replaced (temporarily) with high pressure. So, that means only a 20% - 30% rain chance through Wednesday; however, unsettled weather returns by Thursday due, in part, to a system moving westward from the east coast (50% - 60% rain chance through the weekend!). - Diane Deaton, WAFB Storm Team

Friday, July 13, 2012

Weather Report - July 13, 2012

Rain, Rain Go Away!

Our very wet month of July continues ... with the probability of even more rain staying in the "likely" category today and tomorrow! Overall, the morning drive should stay generally dry; however, it's during the afternoon/evening that another round of showers/storms will return to our viewing area. And, we'll keep a 50% - 60% chance of additional wet weather in the forecast over the weekend; "diminishing a bit" Monday through Thursday of next week (30% - 40%)! - Diane Deaton, WAFB Storm Team

Thursday, July 12, 2012

Weather Report - July 12, 2012

Raindrops Keep Fallin' ...

Again this morning, we're waking to more activity on Titan 9 Doppler radar; however, the heaviest rainfall is well to the west and north of our viewing area. In fact, a *flash flood watch* stays in effect through this evening for the central/western parishes of our state as well as the eastern counties of Texas! And, it looks as if this wet weather will continue right on into the weekend, with rain chances 50% to 60% each day. At least that will help keep afternoon highs near or below 90 degrees for a little while longer! - Diane Deaton, WAFB Storm Team

Tuesday, July 10, 2012

Weather Report - July 10, 2012

Decent Rain Coverage Today

Umbrellas will be needed for the rest of the week. Sct’d showers and t-storms are expected to remain in the forecast for the next several days. So while your backyard might not see rain everyday this week, you might see rain on a handful of days over the next 7 days. A 50% coverage of t-showers is possible within the WAFB viewing area today with slightly lower coverage for the rest of the week. Highs today will top out in the upper 80°s, but for the rest of the week highs are forecasted to be in the low 90°s. The morning’s will be mainly dry with just a few iso’d t-showers in the forecast. Morning lows will be in the low to mid 70°s for the next 7 days. - Jeff Morrow / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - July 9, 2012

Dry in June, Soggy in July!

Areas of moderate/heavy rainfall were reported throughout our viewing area this past weekend and it appears more wet weather can be expected over the course of the next several days! The ridge of high pressure - that had basically controlled our weather the past few weeks - is now shifting westward, allowing the influence of a trough as well as weak cool front (stalling to the north) keeps high rain chances in our forecast. At least a trade off ... "cooler" afternoon highs, in the upper 80s to lower 90s! - Diane Deaton, WAFB Storm Team

Friday, July 6, 2012

Weather Report - July 6, 2012

A Rainy Start to July!

At last, we have rain in the forecast ... not only for today but for the next several days! This returning wet weather pattern is due to a disturbance moving westward along the Gulf Coast; so, count on a 60% - 70% chance for showers/storms later today, 50-50 tomorrow, 30% Sunday. And, with the potential clouds and rainfall ahead, we'll also have slightly "cooler" daytime highs ... instead of the mid/upper 90s, "only" the lower 90s by early next week! - Diane Deaton, WAFB Storm Team

Thursday, July 5, 2012

Weather Report - July 5, 2012

Rain Chances on the Rise

Increased rain chances over the next several days should keep the summer heat in check. Highs will stay in the low to mid 90°s, but heat index values should stay much lower. Not to mention as showers and storms begin the temperature should start to drop thanks to the added cloud cover. We'll see sct'd showers and storms today with a likely rain chance of Friday. For the weekend rain chances will once again stay scattered in nature and will stay that way for the first half of next week. - Jeff Morrow & Diane Deaton / WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - July 3, 2012

More Heat, Humidity - Little Rainfall!

Looks like the ongoing heat/humidity will stay with us through the week ... with highs rather consistent, in the mid 90s! Add to that just a little rainfall over the next few days and no relief by way of Mother Nature - until possibly over the weekend! Our forecast is now calling for an increase in rain chances by the weekend (30% - 40%) providing at least some momentary relief from the summer heat! As a result, scattered showers/storms should help to hold highs in the low/mid 90°s instead of the mid to upper 90°s! - Diane Deaton, WAFB Storm Team

Weather Report - July 2, 2012

DEQ Declares "Ozone Action Day"

Today, our air quality forecast is "Code Orange", unhealthy for sensitive groups. As a result, our air quality could become a concern as winds stay light and, unfortunately, rain chances will still be quite limited. And, while we won't "technically" experience afternoon highs in triple digits, it certainly will "feel like" it ... as our heat index soars to over 100 degrees! Looking ahead, not much of any major change tomorrow and our 4th of July forecast should stay relatively dry (20%) with the main weather story being the heat!! - Diane Deaton, WAFB Storm Team
