HAZARDOUS WEATHER: Patchy fog may develop overnight tonight.

There is a slight risk of severe thunderstorms Tuesday into Tuesday night. The highest threat from any severe thunderstorm activity will be strong damaging wind gusts. However, an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out, especially over southwest Mississippi and the Florida parishes of Louisiana. Thunderstorms will also be possible on Saturday. This thunderstorm threat will continue to be evaluated over the next several days for any potential severe weather risk.

SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA: Today will be partly sunny with a 20 percent chance for isolated showers projected for tonight. Tuesday has a 70 percent chance for daytime thunderstorms decreasing to a 40 percent for showers at night. Wednesday and Thursday will be sunny during the day and mostly clear to partly cloudy at night. Friday has a 20 percent chance for daytime thunderstorms increasing to 30 percent at night.

HAZARDOUS WEATHER:  Shower and thunderstorm chances will increase greatly for Tuesday across all of the area as a cold front crosses the region. Severe weather may be possible with wind damage likely the primary threat. Behind the front, dry and more seasonable weather is expected Wednesday through Friday. Another front will speed across the area on Saturday accompanied by another round of showers and thunderstorms.

CENTRAL LOUISIANA:   Today will be partly sunny with a 20 percent chance for isolated showers tonight. HAZARDOUS WEATHER: A stalled out cold front will back slightly westward today. Thunderstorm chances will remain on the low side. However, a few strong storms do remain a possibility this afternoon and evening.

As this cold front moves toward the region Tuesday morning, heavy rainfall, damaging winds, large hail and a few tornadoes are all possible with the passage of these storms. The greatest threat will likely occur during the late morning to early afternoon hours on Tuesday. As the cold front moves across the region thunderstorm chances will quickly begin to diminish by afternoon.

Thunderstorms may return to the area again Friday afternoon and night.

LOUISIANA WEATHER - November 8, 2011

EMERGENCY ALERT SYSTEM TEST:

As part of a larger effort to strengthen the nation’s preparedness and resiliency, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will conduct the first nation-wide test of the Emergency Alert System on November 9th, at 1 P.M. Central Time. Testing the Emergency Alert System plays a key role in evaluating and improving the systems needed in place to ensure our nation is prepared for all hazards and that people within its borders are able to receive critical and vital information through the system.

SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA: Today will be mostly cloudy during the day with the evening having a 50 percent chance of scattered showers continuing on into Wednesday. Thursday through Saturday is forecasted to be sunny and clear.
Temperatures: Today: 81/66, Wednesday: 78/48, Thursday: 69/37, Friday: 66/41, Saturday: 75/57.
HAZARDOUS WEATHER:  The chance for widespread hazardous weather is low.  However a few strong thunderstorms, capable of producing strong wind gusts and frequent lightning, are possible tonight and possibly early Wednesday, over western portions of the area, mainly west of a line from McComb, Mississippi to Houma, Louisiana.

Small craft advisory conditions are expected to develop in the wake of the cold front Wednesday night and persist into Thursday night.

SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA: Today has a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms during the day with an increase to 60 percent at night.  Wednesday through Saturday is forecasted to be sunny during the day and partly cloudy to clear in the evenings.
Temperatures: Today: 78/61, Wednesday: 68/42, Thursday: 65/38, Friday: 64/49, Saturday: 74/62.
HAZARDOUS WEATHER:  Thunderstorms after midnight could reach severe limits in advance of a strong Pacific cold front.  Once the front passes late tonight, the severe threat should end.  About an inch of rainfall should be common from this system.

There will be cool, chilly nights and mild days into this coming weekend. Rain chances return on Monday as another Pacific front approaches.

CENTRAL LOUISIANA:  Today has a 20 percent chance of showers during the day with an increase to 70 percent at night.  Wednesday through Saturday is forecasted to be sunny during the day and partly cloudy to clear in the evenings.
Temperatures: Today: 82/52, Wednesday: 65/42, Thursday: 64/33, Friday: 64/39, Saturday: 70/57.
HAZARDOUS WEATHER:

Thunderstorms after midnight could reach severe limits in advance of a strong Pacific cold front. Once the front passes late tonight, the severe threat should end.  About an inch of rainfall should be common from this system.

There will be cool, chilly nights and mild days into this coming weekend. Rain chances return on Monday as another Pacific front approaches.

NORTHERN LOUISIANA:   Today has a 70-90 percent chance of severe thunderstorms throughout the day. Wednesday through Saturday is forecasted to be sunny during the day and partly cloudy to clear in the evenings.
Temperatures: Today: 78/49, Wednesday: 64/39, Thursday: 63/33, Friday: 65/41, Saturday: 72/59.

HAZARDOUS WEATHER:  A strong upper level storm system will emerge out from the
southern Rockies and into the southern Plains, causing showers and thunderstorms to intensify this afternoon during peak heating as they enter extreme eastern Texas, north Louisiana, and southwest Arkansas.  Given the strong wind shear and forcing in place, some of these storms may become severe, capable of producing damaging winds and isolated tornadoes. However, the severe weather threat will be dependent on the extent of instability in place, which could be inhibited by cloud cover and showers that may develop ahead of the primary band of thunderstorms. In addition to the severe thunderstorm threat, locally heavy rainfall will be possible area wide, with rainfall amounts of one to three inches expected, with isolated higher amounts possible. The showers and thunderstorms will diminish from west to east this evening, with cooler and drier air filtering southeast behind a cold front.

LOUISIANA WEATHER - November 3, 2011

SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA: Today has a 40 percent chance of scattered thunderstorms then becoming clear in the evening.  Friday through Monday is forecasted to be sunny and mostly clear to cloudy in the evenings.
Temperatures: Today: 69/42, Friday: 67/44, Saturday: 74/53, Sunday: 77/58, Monday: 78/60.
HAZARDOUS WEATHER:  A small craft advisory will be in effect this afternoon for the coastal waters west of the mouth of the Mississippi river. The advisory will be in effect overnight for all coastal waters with the exception of the tidal lakes and Mississippi sound. Over the tidal lakes and Mississippi sound, small craft will need to exercise caution this afternoon and tonight.

A cold front will move through the coastal waters this morning. Cold air behind the front will cause winds to increase to 25 to 30 mph over the coastal waters with waves as high as 5 to 7 feet over the outer waters. Winds and seas should gradually subside Friday morning.

SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA: Today through Saturday will be sunny to partly sunny during the day and clear to cloudy in the evenings.  Sunday and Monday is forecasted to have a 20 percent chance of isolated showers.
Temperatures: Today: 65/40, Friday: 68/44, Saturday: 73/58, Sunday: 77/60, Monday: 79/62.
HAZARDOUS WEATHER:  An elevated fire threat can be expected today. Sharply drier air filtering over the region will bring relative humidity values down into the 30’s. Winds of 15 to 20 mph will be common with higher gusts. Some shower activity accompanying the frontal passage this morning will help to mitigate the threat.

Winds will be significantly lower for Friday and into the coming week. A moistening southerly flow will become established Sunday, ahead of our next frontal passage anticipated Tuesday or Wednesday.

CENTRAL LOUISIANA:  Today through Saturday will be sunny to partly sunny during the day and clear to cloudy in the evenings.  Sunday and Monday is forecasted to have a 20 percent chance of isolated showers.
Temperatures: Today: 64/39, Friday: 66/42, Saturday: 74/55, Sunday: 74/57, Monday: 78/60.

HAZARDOUS WEATHER:  Thunderstorms will begin to edge back in from the northwest as early as Sunday into Monday as a lead upper disturbance moves by to the north. Then we are expecting much greater coverage of thunderstorms area-wide for Tuesday and Tuesday night as our next cold front and its associated upper level system will be even stronger. Considering the timing with peak afternoon heating, some of these storms could have the potential to become strong to severe.

Temperatures:  Today: 77/49, Thursday: 63/39, Friday: 64/43, Saturday: 68/53, Sunday: 73/57.

HAZARDOUS WEATHER:  Showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected this afternoon as a cold front moves through the region. However, due to limited instability only isolated thunderstorms are expected. Additionally, a lake wind advisory is in effect for portions of northwest Louisiana due to an enhanced pressure gradient ahead of the cold front.

Showers and isolated thunderstorms will end early Thursday followed by windy conditions as high pressure builds across the region. Another cold front is forecast to linger across the region early next week, allowing for the possibility of showers and thunderstorms from Sunday through Tuesday.
