SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA: There is a 20 percent chance for daytime thunderstorms today improving to partly cloudy tonight. Wednesday and Thursday will be hot and sunny during the day and partly cloudy at night. Friday and Saturday has a 20 percent or less chance for daytime thunderstorms and partly cloudy nights.

HAZARDOUS WEATHER: Scattered thunderstorms are expected across much of the area today. Although organized severe weather is not expected, a few thunderstorms during the afternoon and early evening could produce strong gusty winds to 45 mph, frequent lightning and brief periods of locally heavy rainfall.
The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will result in heat indices rising to around 105 degrees, locally higher at times, through the early to mid afternoon hours. The development of scattered showers and thunderstorms and associated cloud cover should cause temperatures to fall in most locations as the afternoon progresses.
SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA: Today through Saturday will be hot and sunny during the day and partly cloudy at night. Temperatures: Today: 99/78, Wednesday: 99/78, Thursday: 98/78, Friday: 98/77, Saturday: 98/78.
HAZARDOUS WEATHER: Hot conditions will continue with air temperatures in the mid 90s along the I-10 corridor and upper 90s to around 100 north of the I-10 corridor. When combined with relative humidity, the heat index or apparent temperature will be between 102 and 107 degrees with higher values in isolated locations. These near dangerous heat index readings will occur between 10 am and 6 pm. Precautions should be made to delay any strenuous outdoor activities to before or after these hours.
Hot conditions will continue through the end of the week. Air temperatures are expected to be a little higher on Wednesday and Thursday. This may require a heat advisory for portions of the forecast area on these days. The upper level ridge is expected to push back to the west over the weekend. This may allow for a chance of showers and thunderstorms and allow temperatures to be a couple of degrees lower.

A heat advisory may be issued due to the potential dangers associated with such oppressive heat. Only isolated thunderstorms are expected each day Wednesday through Saturday, then isolated to scattered thunderstorms are expected Sunday and Monday. Widespread severe weather is not expected but a few storms could produce frequent lightning, strong gusty winds and brief periods of locally heavy rainfall.
CENTRAL LOUISIANA: Today through Friday will be hot and sunny during the day and partly cloudy at night. Saturday has a slight chance for daytime thunderstorms turning to partly cloudy at night. Temperatures: Today: 100/78, Wednesday: 101/78, Thursday: 100/77, Friday: 100/78, Saturday: 99/78.

HAZARDOUS WEATHER: High temperatures will range from around 100 to near 105 degrees, yielding heat index values between 105 and 110 degrees. Therefore, a heat advisory remains in effect. Precautions should be taken to protect against heat related illnesses resulting from outdoor exposure or inadequately cooled buildings.
A heat advisory will remain in effect through at least Wednesday afternoon as continued hot weather results in heat index values between 105 and 110 degrees. Isolated showers and thunderstorms may develop during the afternoon hours bringing temporary relief from the hot conditions. Isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms may provide temporary relief to the continued hot conditions through the remainder of the week.
