SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA: Today will see a 20 percent slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1:00pm today with heat index values as high as 109. Tonight through Thursday will be mostly sunny and clear. Friday through Sunday can expect a 20-30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms each day.

HAZARDOUS WEATHER: An abundance of low level moisture will remain in place over the area through the week. High humidity levels will combine with afternoon temperatures in the mid to upper 90s to produce afternoon heat index values of 107 to 114 degrees this afternoon and Thursday. In addition, morning lows are generally expected to remain in the upper 70s to lower 80s providing little relief from the oppressive heat. An excessive heat warning is in effect through 7:00PM Thursday.
Isolated thunderstorms are expected this afternoon mainly along Gulf and lake breeze boundaries. Any storms should be briefly strong with occasional lightning, brief heavy rain and downburst gusts. Organized severe storms are not anticipated.
