SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA: Today will be partly sunny and hot with scattered showers and thunderstorms after noon with heat index values as high as 106 degrees. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. Tonight will be partly cloudy with isolated showers and thunderstorms mainly before 1am. Thursday will be mostly sunny and hot with heat index values as high as 107 degrees. Thursday night through Friday will be partly cloudy with a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Saturday and Sunday will be mostly sunny and hot each day.

HAZARDOUS WEATHER: A Heat Advisory is in effect today with heat index readings to exceed 105 degrees through early evening. Many areas will likely experience heat index readings around 110 degrees between noon and 3pm this afternoon. Isolated to scattered showers are expected this afternoon mainly west of Interstate 55 and west of Lake Ponchartrain. A few storms may be strong with the main hazards being frequent lightning, gusty winds and brief very heavy rainfall. Isolated afternoon thunderstorms are expected over the River Parishes southwest of Lake Ponchartrain on Thursday; however these storms should remain below severe limits.
A warm and humid air mass will result in heat index values rising to 102 and 107 degrees Thursday and Friday. A northerly flow is expected to bring lower humidity and lower heat index readings Saturday through Tuesday despite continued hot temperatures. SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA: Today through Thursday night will have partly cloudy skies with a 20-30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly between the hours of 1pm-9pm each day. Friday through Sunday will be sunny and hot each day with mostly clear nights.

Isolated to widely scattered thunderstorms will develop this afternoon. Stronger thunderstorms will produce brief heavy rains and will have the potential to produce gusty winds.

HAZARDOUS WEATHER: A heat advisory is in effect until 9 pm this evening. The potential for heat related illnesses will be present again this afternoon with heat index values expected to range between 105 and 110 degrees for much of the afternoon into the early evening. Isolated thunderstorms are possible this afternoon and evening. There is a potential for damaging winds with the stronger storms.
Temperatures are expected to climb above the century mark area wide Thursday. Heat index values may reach or exceed 105 degrees, making outdoor activities potentially dangerous if proper precautions are not taken to prevent heat related illnesses.
