LOUISIANA WEATHER - August 23, 2011

SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA: Today and Wednesday has a 20 percent chance for daytime thunderstorms and cloudy to clear in the evenings.  Thursday through Saturday are forecasted to be mostly sunny and hot with partly cloudy evening skies.
Temperatures: Today: 100/77, Wednesday: 99/76, Thursday: 100/76, Friday: 98/74, Saturday: 97/72.
HAZARDOUS WEATHER: A hot and humid air mass will remain in place today. Heat index values of 105 to 112 degrees are expected this afternoon and Wednesday afternoon. A few locations may see relief in the afternoon from showers and thunderstorms but many will not. Therefore, a heat advisory is in effect today and for Wednesday.

 

Only a slight chance of thunderstorms is expected on Wednesday. Warm and humid air mass will result in heat index values rising to 101 to 106 degrees each afternoon Thursday through Saturday.

 

SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA: Today through Thursday has a 20 percent chance for daytime thunderstorms improving to partly cloudy in the evenings.  Friday and Saturday are forecasted to be mostly sunny and hot during the day with cloudy to clear skies in the evenings.
Temperatures: Today: 97/75, Wednesday: 97/75, Thursday: 97/76, Friday: 99/76, Saturday: 95/73.
HAZARDOUS WEATHER:  Another hot day is on tap as afternoon temperatures climb back into the mid to upper 90’s generally from the coast to north of the I-10 corridor. Afternoon temperatures will rise above the century mark across the lakes region in central Louisiana. Heat index will climb above the century mark before the noon hour and remain there through the evening hours before falling.

 

It looks to remain hot through the rest of the week before a break over the weekend as some cooler air will spill from the north. Only isolated chances for showers are possible through this period.

 
CENTRAL LOUISIANA: Today through Thursday has a 20-30 percent chance for daytime thunderstorms and partly cloudy in the evenings.  Friday and Saturday are forecasted to be mostly sunny and hot with partly cloudy skies in the evenings.
Temperatures: Today: 99/75, Wednesday: 101/74, Thursday: 100/74, Friday: 98/72, Saturday: 96/71.
HAZARDOUS WEATHER:  Another hot day is on tap as afternoon temperatures climb back into the mid to upper 90’s generally from the coast to north of the I-10 corridor. NORTHERN LOUISIANA: Today through Thursday has a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms throughout the day each day. Friday and Saturday is forecasted to be hot and mostly sunny with partly cloudy evening skies. 
Temperatures: Today: 103/77, Wednesday: 104/78, Thursday: 103/73, Friday: 99/72, Saturday: 99/73.
HAZARDOUS WEATHER:  A heat advisory is in effect until 9 pm this evening. The potential for heat related illnesses will be present again today, with heat index values expected to range between 105 and 110 degrees for much of the afternoon into the early evening. Isolated thunderstorms are possible this afternoon and evening. There is a potential for damaging winds with the stronger storms.

 

Temperatures are expected to climb above the century mark area wide through Thursday of this week. Heat index values may reach or exceed 105 degrees, making outdoor activities potentially dangerous if proper precautions are not taken to prevent heat related illnesses.
