LOUISIANA WEATHER - August 22, 2011

SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA: Today has a 40 percent chance for scattered thunderstorms during the day with a decrease to 20 percent isolated showers in the evening continuing on into Tuesday and Wednesday.  Thursday and Friday are forecasted to be mostly sunny and hot with partly cloudy evening skies.
Temperatures: Today: 95/76, Tuesday: 100/76, Wednesday: 98/75, Thursday: 98/77, Friday: 98/75.
HAZARDOUS WEATHER: Coastal parishes of southeast Louisiana will experience temperatures into the middle 90’s with heat index values in many areas in the 105 to 110 degree range by early afternoon. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected across southeast Louisiana and southern Mississippi this afternoon, which will provide some relief from the heat. In addition, a few stronger storms may produce wind gusts up to 40 miles an hour this afternoon.

 

Only a slight chance of thunderstorm is expected Tuesday through Sunday. Warm and humid air mass will result in heat index values rising to 103 to 108 degrees each afternoon Tuesday through Friday.

 

SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA: Today has a 40 percent chance for thunderstorms during the day with a decrease to 20 percent in the evening and continuing through Friday.
Temperatures: Today: 96/76, Tuesday: 96/77, Wednesday: 97/76, Thursday: 96/77, Friday: 97/76.
HAZARDOUS WEATHER:  The heat wave will continue today and throughout the week with some late afternoon showers and thunderstorms possible. Hazardous weather from the heat wave is expected today.
 
CENTRAL LOUISIANA: Today has a 30 percent chance for thunderstorms during the day with a slight decrease to 20 percent in the evening and continuing through Friday.
Temperatures: Today: 98/76, Tuesday: 100/74, Wednesday: 100/74, Thursday: 99/75, Friday: 98/74.
HAZARDOUS WEATHER:  The heat wave will continue today and throughout the week with some late afternoon showers and thunderstorms possible. Hazardous weather from the heat wave is expected today.
 
NORTHERN LOUISIANA: Today through Thursday has a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms throughout the day each day. Friday is forecasted to be hot and mostly sunny with partly cloudy evening skies. 
Temperatures: Today: 101/78, Tuesday: 101/77, Wednesday: 103/76, Thursday: 102/77, Friday: 100/76.
HAZARDOUS WEATHER: The potential for heat related illnesses will be present again today, with heat index values expected to range between 105 and 110 degrees for much of the afternoon into the early evening. Isolated thunderstorms are possible this afternoon and evening. There is a potential for damaging winds with the stronger storms.

 

Temperatures are expected to climb above the century mark area-wide through much of this week. Heat indices may also reach or exceed 105 degrees, making outdoor activities potentially dangerous if proper precautions are not taken to prevent heat related illnesses.
