LOUISIANA WEATHER - August 16, 2011

SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA: Today will be sunny to mostly sunny during the day and mostly clear at night. Saturday has a 20 percent chance for daytime thunderstorms and mostly clear at night. Sunday has a slight chance for scattered, isolated thunderstorms throughout the day and night.                                 

Temperatures: Today: 96/74, Wednesday: 96/76, Thursday: 96/75, Friday: 95/75, Saturday: 94/75.
HAZARDOUS WEATHER: Isolated thunderstorms will continue over portions of the coastal waters west of Southwest Pass this morning. Upper level disturbances moving south into the area and a lingering frontal boundary will provide a focus for additional isolated thunderstorms mainly west and south of Lake Pontchartrain today and tonight. Severe thunderstorms are not expected, however a few of the stronger storms could produce frequent lightning, gusty winds and brief heavy rainfall.

An air quality action day is in effect until 7 pm for the Baton Rouge metro area.

 

Isolated and scattered thunderstorms are expected Thursday and Friday.  A few of the later afternoon thunderstorms each day could become strong to locally severe with the main threats being strong wind gusts and frequent lightning.

 

The return of higher humidity and continued hot temperatures means heat index readings are expected to rise into the 100 to 107 degree range each afternoon.

 
SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA: Today and Wednesday will be hot and sunny during the day and partly cloudy tonight. Wednesday evening through Saturday has a 20 percent chance for isolated thunderstorms throughout each day.

Temperatures: Today: 97/76, Wednesday: 97/77, Thursday: 95/77, Friday: 95/77, Saturday: 95/76.
HAZARDOUS WEATHER: No hazardous weather reported at this time.


CENTRAL LOUISIANA: Today and Wednesday will be hot and sunny during the day and partly cloudy tonight. Wednesday evening through Saturday has a 20 percent chance for isolated thunderstorms throughout the day, each day.

Temperatures: Today: 101/73, Wednesday: 100/74, Thursday: 98/74, Friday: 97/75, Saturday: 97/75.
HAZARDOUS WEATHER: No hazardous weather reported at this time.


NORTHERN LOUISIANA:
Today through Friday has a 20 percent chance for thunderstorms throughout the day each day, with the exception of tonight and Friday night having partly cloudy skies.  Saturday is forecast to be hot and mostly sunny.

Temperatures: Today: 103/76, Wednesday: 102/76, Thursday: 103/75, Friday: 103/76, Saturday: 100/75.
HAZARDOUS WEATHER: Isolated thunderstorms will be possible for some locations today and tonight along and near a nearly stationary boundary that will lift north.  
 
Temperatures will climb to near or slightly above 100 degrees through the weekend with heat index values ranging from near 100 to 105 degrees with brief and isolated higher readings.
