LOUISIANA WEATHER - August 1, 2011

SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA: Today there is a 60 percent chance for daytime thunderstorms decreasing to 20 percent in the evening. Tuesday through Friday there is a 20-30 percent chance of daytime thunderstorms and partly cloudy skies in the evenings.
Temperatures: Today: 95/76, Tuesday: 97/77, Wednesday: 94/79, Thursday: 95/77, Friday: 95/77.
HAZARDOUS WEATHER: Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected this afternoon. A few storms will be capable of producing frequent lightning, strong wind gusts and brief periods of locally heavy rainfall. Afternoon temperatures in the mid 90's will combine with dew points in the mid to upper 70's producing heat index values of 105 to 109 degrees this afternoon. A heat advisory remains in effect for all areas away from the Louisiana coast.

Isolated thunderstorms will be possible each afternoon Tuesday through Friday. A few storms may be strong to severe with the main threat being strong and damaging wind gusts. Thunderstorms will increase in coverage Saturday and Sunday. High temperatures in the mid to upper 90's are expected each afternoon. A heat advisory is currently in effect until 7 pm Tuesday.

SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA:
Today has a 40 percent chance of thunderstorms with a decrease to 20 percent in the evening, continuing into Tuesday. Wednesday through Friday is forecast to be mostly sunny and hot with partly cloudy evening skies.
Temperatures: Today: 96/77, Tuesday: 95/77, Wednesday: 97/80, Thursday: 97/78, Friday: 96/78.
HAZARDOUS WEATHER: Scattered showers and thunderstorms can be expected today. Otherwise very hot and humid conditions will continue. With temperatures ranging from the mid 90's to around 100 degrees, heat indexes will peak from 100 to 105 along and south of the Interstate 10 corridor and from 105 to 108 across central Louisiana.

Tuesday through Sunday, hot and humid conditions will persist. Rain chances will become limited as strong high pressure settles over the area.

CENTRAL LOUISIANA: Today has a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms with a decrease to 20 percent in the evening, continuing into Tuesday. Wednesday through Friday is forecast to be mostly sunny and hot with partly cloudy evening skies.
Temperatures: Today: 99/77, Tuesday: 101/78, Wednesday: 101/77, Thursday: 101/77, Friday: 100/77.
HAZARDOUS WEATHER: Scattered showers and thunderstorms can be expected today. Otherwise very hot and humid conditions will continue. With temperatures ranging from the mid 90's to around 100 degrees, heat indexes will peak from 100 to 105 along and south of the Interstate 10 corridor and from 105 to 108 across central Louisiana.

NORTHERN LOUISIANA: Today through Friday is forecast to be mostly sunny and hot with partly cloudy evening skies.
Temperatures: Today: 104/80, Tuesday: 105/80, Wednesday: 105/80, Thursday: 105/80, Friday: 104/80.
HAZARDOUS WEATHER: Isolated thunderstorms are possible later today and early this evening as the remnants of a weak upper disturbance pushes southwest across the four state area. Brief heavy rain, gusty winds and dangerous lightning will accompany any strong storms along with cooler air for a few locales. Meanwhile an excessive heat warning is in effect for much of today.
