LOUISIANA WEATHER - July 7, 2011

SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA: Today through Saturday will have a 20-30 percent chance for isolated and scattered thunderstorms throughout the day each day, with Sunday and Monday having an increase to 40 percent.
Temperatures: Today: 94/75, Friday: 93/74, Saturday: 93/75, Sunday: 93/75, Monday: 93/75.
HAZARDOUS WEATHER: Scattered thunderstorms are expected today and possible through the weekend. Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible mainly during the afternoon. The main threats will be damaging winds, frequent lightning and brief, heavy downpours of rain.

Heat index values will rise into the 97 to 103 degree range each afternoon outside of rain areas through Saturday.

SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA:
Today through Monday will have a 20 percent chance for thunderstorms during the day and partly cloudy in the evenings.
Temperatures: Today: 90/75, Friday: 92/75, Saturday: 92/75, Sunday: 92/76, Monday: 93/77.
HAZARDOUS WEATHER: Isolated to widely scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected today, with more scattered thunderstorm activity expected over the Acadian region. Some storms will produce gusty winds, frequent cloud to ground lightning and very heavy downpours. At this time, storms are not expected to reach severe limits.

Thunderstorm coverage over the area is expected to lessen through early next week as an upper level low pressure system over the northern gulf moves westward. There is a potential for a few storms to produce frequent lightning, strong wind gusts and heavy downpours.

CENTRAL LOUISIANA: Today through Monday will have a 20 percent chance for thunderstorms during the day and partly cloudy in the evenings.
Temperatures: Today: 94/73, Friday: 93/74, Saturday: 93/74, Sunday: 96/74, Monday: 95/75.
HAZARDOUS WEATHER: Isolated to widely scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected today, with more scattered thunderstorm activity expected over the Acadian region. Some storms will produce gusty winds, frequent cloud to ground lightning and very heavy downpours. At this time, storms are not expected to reach severe limits.

NORTHERN LOUISIANA: Today through Monday will have a 20-30 percent chance for thunderstorms throughout the day each day with the exception of Saturday and Sunday evenings having partly cloudy skies.
Temperatures: Today: 97/73, Friday: 97/74, Saturday: 97/74, Sunday: 99/75, Monday: 100/76.
HAZARDOUS WEATHER: Scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop across the area late this afternoon and continue through the weekend. A few isolated storms may become severe. Damaging winds, heavy rainfall and dangerous lightning will be the primary threats. In addition, heat index values will approach or exceed 100 degrees this afternoon, especially along and south of the Interstate 20 corridor, increasing the chance for heat related injuries.
