LOUISIANA WEATHER - July 25, 2011

SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA: Today through Friday has a 50-60 percent chance of thunderstorms during the day decreasing to 30 percent each evening.
Temperatures: Today: 89/75, Tuesday: 90/75, Wednesday: 92/75, Thursday: 91/76, Friday: 92/78.
HAZARDOUS WEATHER: Numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected again today and locally heavy rainfall amounts will be possible in a relatively short period of time. The showers and thunderstorms will diminish during the evening hours. A wetter than normal pattern will persist during much of the remainder of the work week with numerous occurrences of showers and thunderstorms expected, especially during the daytime hours. Severe thunderstorms are not expected, however a few strong storms are possible each day with strong gusty winds and lightning strikes. Waterspouts will be possible over the tidal lakes and coastal waters.

A somewhat drier pattern is expected to take hold over the weekend with showers and thunderstorms becoming more scattered in nature. This means temperatures will be rising into the mid 90s for highs over many areas over the weekend with heat index values likely reaching or exceeding 105 degrees.

SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA:
Today has a 40 percent chance of thunderstorms during the day decreasing to 20 percent in the evening. Tuesday through the rest of the week is forecast to have a 20-30 percent chance of thunderstorms throughout the day each day.
Temperatures: Today: 93/78, Tuesday: 93/78, Wednesday: 93/78, Thursday: 95/77, Friday: 94/78.
HAZARDOUS WEATHER: Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected again through this evening and through the rest of the week, as a very moist and unstable air mass combines with a weakness in the atmosphere aloft. Although severe weather is not expected, a few of the storms could produce wind gusts to 40 mph and frequent dangerous lightning along with heavy rains which will quickly result in ponding of water on roadways. On the coastal waters the storms will produce brief gusty winds, rough seas and heavy rains reducing the visibility to a mile or less. The combination of high temperatures in the mid to upper 90s and relative humidity values of 40 to 50 percent will produce heat index values of 103 to 107 degrees.

CENTRAL LOUISIANA: Today through Wednesday has a 40 percent chance of thunderstorms during the day decreasing to 20 percent in the evening. Thursday and Friday is forecast to have a 20-30 percent chance of thunderstorms throughout the day each day.
Temperatures: Today: 94/76, Tuesday: 95/76, Wednesday: 95/75, Thursday: 96/75, Friday: 95/76.

NORTHERN LOUISIANA:
Today and Tuesday has a 20-30 percent chance of thunderstorms throughout the day. Wednesday will be mostly sunny and hot with cloudy evening skies. Thunderstorms return back on Thursday and Friday with a 20 percent chance of rain throughout the day each day.
Temperatures: Today: 100/78, Tuesday: 100/78, Wednesday: 102/78, Thursday: 101/78, Friday: 100/78.
HAZARDOUS WEATHER: A heat advisory remains in effect through 9 pm this evening for northwest Louisiana, west of a Prescott and Lewisville Arkansas, to Bossier City and Many Louisiana line. Afternoon temperatures will again range from the upper 90s to in excess of 100 degrees. These temperatures, when combined with the increased humidity, will produce heat index values in excess of 105 degrees this afternoon and early evening across the advisory area. Isolated to widely scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible today and tonight, as an upper level disturbance drifts south across the region ahead of a large dome of high pressure aloft centered over Oklahoma and north Texas. Any thunderstorm that develops will have the potential to produce strong and gusty winds, brief heavy rainfall, and frequent lightning.
