SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA: Today has a 70 percent chance for daytime thunderstorms decreasing to 30 percent in the evening. Tuesday through Friday has a 20 percent chance for thunderstorms during the day and mostly clear to partly cloudy skies in the evenings.
Temperatures: Today: 90/74, Tuesday: 95/74, Wednesday: 92/76, Thursday: 94/77, Friday: 94/77.
HAZARDOUS WEATHER: Numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected to remain a threat across southern Mississippi and southeast Louisiana today. The stronger storms will likely remain below severe limits with one or two producing winds up to 30 mph. Isolated heavy rainfall amounts of 3 to 5 inches will be possible today. This will cause some low lying areas including roadways to flood temporarily. Waterspouts will be likely today over most marine areas.
Thunderstorm numbers will decrease starting Tuesday but a few strong storms will continue to be possible mainly during the afternoon and early evening hours. The main threats will be gusty winds, frequent lightning and heavy rain.
SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA: Today and Saturday has a 50-60 percent chance for daytime thunderstorms with a decreasing percentage in the evenings. Wednesday through Friday has a 20 percent chance for thunderstorms during the day and partly cloudy each evening.
Temperatures: Today: 91/75, Tuesday: 90/76, Wednesday: 94/76, Thursday: 95/77, Friday: 95/77.
HAZARDOUS WEATHER: The combination of deep tropical moisture over the area with a disturbance passing east to west will allow showers and thunderstorms to develop this morning, becoming more numerous during the afternoon. The showers and thunderstorms will diminish this evening with the loss of daytime heating. Due to the high moisture content and expected slow movement of the stronger showers and storms today, heavy rainfall with amounts of 1 to 3 inches may fall in isolated locations in a short amount of time. This will lead to ponding of water on roadways and minor street flooding in low lying urban drainage areas. Also, frequent cloud to ground lightning may occur with the storms.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms with localized heavy rainfall and frequent lightning can be expected again Tuesday with the best chances occurring from late morning through the afternoon. Rain chances will decrease from Wednesday through the weekend. With lower rain chances, afternoon highs will return to the middle 90s with heat index readings of 100-105 degrees from mid to late week.
CENTRAL LOUISIANA: Today and Saturday has a 40-60 percent chance for daytime thunderstorms with a decrease to 20 percent tonight. Wednesday through Friday has a 20 percent chance for thunderstorms during the day and partly cloudy in the evenings each day.
Temperatures: Today: 92/74, Tuesday: 93/73, Wednesday: 96/75, Thursday: 97/75, Friday: 97/75.

HAZARDOUS WEATHER: Afternoon temperatures will range from the middle 90s to around 100 degrees today. These temperatures, when combined with the humidity, will produce heat index values from the upper 90s to around 105 degrees. In addition, isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible this afternoon and evening across most of the region. Any thunderstorm that develops will have the potential to produce strong and gusty winds, brief heavy rainfall and frequent lightning.
Temperatures will remain in the upper 90s to around 102 degrees through much of the week and through the weekend, as a large upper level ridge of high pressure persists across the Plains and Mississippi Valley. Widely scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible through the coming weekend, but rain chances will become more isolated through the remainder of the week as the ridge strengthens. Any thunderstorms that develop will be capable of producing strong and gusty winds, brief heavy rainfall and frequent lightning.
