LOUISIANA WEATHER - June 27, 2011

SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA: Today and Tuesday will have a 10 percent chance for isolated thunderstorms during the day clearing to partly cloudy at night. Wednesday has a 30 percent chance for daytime showers decreasing to 20 percent at night. Thursday also has a 30 percent chance for daytime showers clearing to partly cloudy at night. Friday has a slight chance for thunderstorms during the day clearing to partly cloudy at night.
Temperatures: Today: 94/76, Tuesday: 95/77, Wednesday: 92/75, Thursday: 94/74, Friday: 93/74.
HAZARDOUS WEATHER: Isolated thunderstorms are possible this afternoon and early this evening mainly along lake and gulf breeze boundary zones generally south of the Louisiana tidal lakes. While in the developing stages, waterspouts and funnel clouds will be possible near large bodies of water. Once developed, damaging down bursts with gusts of 40 to 60 mph will be possible along with occasional lightning and brief heavy rainfall. All activity should dissipate shortly after sunset. Daytime heat index readings of 100 to 110 are expected this afternoon between noon and 6 pm.

Isolated thunderstorms are possible Tuesday and Wednesday. Slightly more coverage is expected Thursday and Friday as a weak frontal boundary moves into the outlook area from the northeast. One or two storms may pulse close to severe levels along this frontal feature as it interacts with the gulf breeze boundary Thursday afternoon and possibly Friday afternoon. Heat index values of 105 to 110 are possible on Tuesday and Wednesday with values of 100 to 105 possible Thursday through Sunday.

SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA: Today will be mostly sunny during the day and mostly clear at night. Tuesday will be clear and hot during the day and mostly clear at night. Wednesday has a 30 percent chance for thunderstorms during the day becoming partly cloudy at night. Thursday will be mostly sunny during the day and partly cloudy at night. Friday has a 20 percent chance for daytime thunderstorms clearing to partly cloudy at night.
Temperatures: Today: 95/73, Tuesday: 97/74, Wednesday: 95/75, Thursday: 96/75, Friday: 95/74.
HAZARDOUS WEATHER: Afternoon heat indices will be between 103 and 108 degrees Tuesday through Thursday. A heat advisory may be required. Small shower or thunderstorm rain chances will be seen on Wednesday and again Friday through Sunday.

CENTRAL LOUISIANA: Today will be mostly sunny during the day with tonight being mostly clear. Tuesday will be hot and clear during the day and partly cloudy at night. Wednesday has a 20 percent chance for thunderstorms during the day clearing to partly cloudy at night. Thursday will be hot and clear during the day and partly cloudy at night. Friday has a 20 percent chance for thunderstorms during the day clearing to partly cloudy at night.

HAZARDOUS WEATHER: Afternoon heat indices will be between 103 and 108 degrees Tuesday through Thursday. A heat advisory may be required. Small shower or thunderstorm rain chances will be seen on Wednesday and again Friday through Sunday.

NORTHERN LOUISIANA: Today will be hot and clear during the day and partly cloudy at night. Tuesday has a 20 percent chance for thunderstorms throughout the day and night. Wednesday through Friday will be hot and clear during the day and partly cloudy at night.
Temperatures: Today: 98/75, Tuesday: 99/75, Wednesday: 100/75, Thursday: 101/75, Friday: 100/75.
HAZARDOUS WEATHER: Very hot to near extreme heat conditions are expected this afternoon. Maximum temperature readings are expected to rise into the upper 90s to near 100 degrees this afternoon. As a result, heat index readings of 103 to 108 degrees are expected at various sites across the ArkLaTex this afternoon.

Hot temperatures and moisture will combine to produce near extreme heat conditions through the end of the work week.
