Severe Weather Potential Wed Apr 27

By tomorrow (Wednesday) morning, a strong cold front will be moving toward
the area from the northwest. Ahead of this front, we are expecting isolated
to scattered showers and thunderstorms to develop - with a possible squall
line along the front. The environment ahead of the front is forecast to be
unstable and also highly sheared - which could lead to the development of
some strong/severe thunderstorms. The storm prediction center continues to
indicate that there is a slight risk of severe weather across the entire
area tomorrow.

Any storms that develop well ahead of the front will be capable of producing
all modes of severe weather (strong/damaging winds, large hail, isolated
tornadoes). The timing of these storms well ahead of the front would be
during the morning and early afternoon hours.

Along the front - the main threats with a squall line will be
strong/damaging winds and large hail. However, isolated tornadoes cannot be
ruled out - especially near any breaks in the line or on the ends of bowing
segments. The squall line is currently forecast to move through the area
during the afternoon and early evening hours.

Area average rainfall is expected to be less than an inch, though amounts
will vary depending on the location of any heavier thunderstorms. Even if a
few thunderstorms do produce high rainfall rates, flash flooding is not
expected to be an issue due to the dry conditions across the area. However,
temporary ponding of water in low lying areas and areas of poor drainage
will be possible with the heaviest thunderstorms.

Also ahead of the front, winds are expected to strengthen as the pressure
gradient tightens. Sustained winds of 20 to 30 mph are expected, with
frequent gusts in the 35 to 40 mph range. A wind advisory will be issued
this afternoon for the entire area. It will be in effect from 9am until
7pm.
