LOUISIANA WEATHER - April 18, 2011

SPRING/SUMMER DROUGHT STATUS:
Due to a drier than normal winter coupled with a projected drier than normal spring, the latest weekly drought assessment from the National Weather Service shows the majority of Louisiana is in a drought condition ranging from abnormally dry to extreme drought. The projection through June calls for this condition to persist or intensify.

In response to current conditions, the following parishes have implemented burn bans:

Sabine
Natchitoches
Union
Cameron (Island of Big Lake)

SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA: Today will have mostly sunny daytime skies and partly cloudy in the evening. Tuesday will be mostly sunny and breezy. Wednesday has a 20 percent slight chance of showers throughout the day. Thursday and Friday is forecast to be mostly sunny with Friday also being breezy.
Temperatures: Today: 83/70, Tuesday: 86/71, Wednesday: 86/69, Thursday: 87/69, Friday: 87/68.
HAZARDOUS WEATHER: No hazardous weather reported at this time.

SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA:
Today through Friday will have mostly sunny daytime skies and be mostly cloudy in the evenings.
Temperatures: Today: 81/70, Tuesday: 84/70, Wednesday: 84/69, Thursday: 83/70, Friday: 83/69.
HAZARDOUS WEATHER: No hazardous weather reported at this time.

The Atchafalaya River at Morgan City is currently at 4.61 feet (minor flood stage). Minor flood stage is 4 to 7 feet. The river is expected to remain at this level over the next few days.
POTENTIAL IMPACT: At 4 to 5 feet, water will move up the bank and across access roads below the city dock. Floodwall gates should be closed by the 5 foot stage to protect against higher stages. Vessel traffic will be affected by stronger river current and vessel traffic safety rules will be strictly enforced by the U. S. Coast Guard. The impact on river side industry will lessen as the river begins to recede.

CENTRAL LOUISIANA: Today and Tuesday will have mostly sunny daytime skies and be mostly cloudy in the evenings. Wednesday has a 20 percent slight chance of thunderstorms throughout the day. Thursday and Friday are forecasted to have mostly sunny daytime skies and be mostly cloudy in the evenings.
Temperatures: Today: 84/70, Tuesday: 88/71, Wednesday: 89/67, Thursday: 84/69, Friday: 86/69.
HAZARDOUS WEATHER: No hazardous weather reported at this time.

NORTHERN LOUISIANA: Today through Friday is forecasted to have a 20-30 percent chance of thunderstorms throughout the day each day.
Temperatures: Today: 80/69, Tuesday: 87/70, Wednesday: 83/64, Thursday: 84/66, Friday: 86/67.
HAZARDOUS WEATHER: No hazardous weather reported at this time.
