LOUISIANA WEATHER - March 18, 2011

SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA: Today through Tuesday is forecast to be sunny during the day with the evenings having areas of patchy fog that will be present during the earlier morning hours as well.
Temperatures: Today: 82/56, Saturday: 82/54, Sunday: 82/54, Monday: 82/59, Tuesday: 79/59.
HAZARDOUS WEATHER: Areas of foggy conditions are expected through the weekend over land and marine areas and dense fog advisories for many areas may be necessary.

The Pearl River at Bogalusa is currently at 20.76 feet (minor flood stage). Minor flood stage is 18 to 21 feet. The river is expected to maintain this level through Tuesday.
POTENTIAL IMPACT: Between 20 to 21 feet, woodlands and crop acreage along the river may be flooded. The Bogue Chitto Wildlife Management Area may be inundated with water in recreational camps and over access roads. At 21 feet property east of Louisiana Highway 21 along Bogalusa creek will begin to flood.

The Pearl River near Pearl River is currently at 16.23 feet (minor flood stage). Minor flood stage is 14 to 17 feet. The river is expected to fall too just below 15.5 feet by Tuesday. POTENTIAL IMPACT: At 17 feet, improved roads near the river will be covered with low water. Gum Bayou will back up flooding the lower portions of streets in River Garden Subdivision. Secondary roads to the river and throughout Honey Island Swamp will remain inundated. Property in the vicinity of the gage is flooded threatening about 20 homes along the left bank. Water on low lying property and over the lower portions of streets in river gardens subdivision will slowly begin to drain.

SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA:
Today through Tuesday is forecast to be mostly sunny during the day with the evenings having areas of patchy fog that will be present during the earlier morning hours as well.
Temperatures: Today: 80/57, Saturday: 78/57, Sunday: 79/57, Monday: 81/58, Tuesday: 80/61.
HAZARDOUS WEATHER: No hazardous weather is reported at this time

The Atchafalaya River at Morgan City is currently at 4.62 feet (minor flood stage). Minor flood stage is 4 to 7 feet. The river is expected to rise to 5 feet by Monday.
POTENTIAL IMPACT: At 4 feet, water will move up the bank and across access roads below the city dock. Floodwall gates should be closed by the 5 foot stage to protect against higher stages. Vessel traffic will be affected by stronger river current and vessel traffic safety rules will be strictly enforced by the U. S. Coast Guard. The impact on river side industry will lessen as the river begins to recede.


CENTRAL LOUISIANA: Today will be mostly cloudy throughout the day with patchy fog in the late evening hours. Saturday through Monday will be mostly sunny during the day with evenings having areas of patchy fog that will be present during the earlier morning hours as well. Tuesday is forecasted to be partly sunny and mostly cloudy in the evening.
Temperatures: Today: 81/51, Saturday: 81/53, Sunday: 82/55, Monday: 81/57, Tuesday: 82/58.
HAZARDOUS WEATHER: No hazardous weather is reported at this time

NORTHERN LOUISIANA: Today through Tuesday is forecast to be partly sunny during the day and partly cloudy in the evenings.
Temperatures: Today: 81/61, Saturday: 80/58, Sunday: 82/58, Monday: 81/60, Tuesday: 80/61.
HAZARDOUS WEATHER: No hazardous weather is reported at this time
