LOUISIANA WEATHER - March 4, 2011

SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA: Today and Saturday has a 70-90 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms throughout the day each day. Sunday and Monday will be sunny during the day and partly cloudy in the evenings. Tuesday is forecasted to have a slight chance of showers throughout the day.
Temperatures: Today: 73/63, Saturday: 74/45, Sunday: 66/39, Monday: 68/48, Tuesday: 74/63.
HAZARDOUS WEATHER: No hazardous weather reported at this time. The scattered showers and thunderstorms will diminish from west to east through early afternoon Saturday with the passage of the cold front. Cooler temperatures and drier air will filter into the region behind the front, with seasonal temperatures and dry conditions persisting through Monday. Another strong upper level disturbance will emerge out into the central and southern plains Tuesday, with Gulf moisture quickly returning northward into the region. Showers and thunderstorms will become more numerous late Tuesday night and Wednesday along and ahead of another cold front with rainfall amounts of one to two inches possible. This system may also produce isolated severe thunderstorms although considerable uncertainty remains this far out in the forecast.

SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA:
Today has a 20-30 percent chance of showers throughout the day. Saturday has a 70 percent chance of daytime thunderstorms and partly cloudy in the evening. Sunday and Monday will be mostly sunny during the day and clear to mostly cloudy in the evenings. Tuesday is forecasted to have a 20 percent slight chance of showers.
Temperatures: Today: 75/60, Saturday: 68/43, Sunday: 65/41, Monday: 67/56, Tuesday: 74/64.
HAZARDOUS WEATHER: Isolated thunderstorms are possible across east and south central Louisiana this afternoon. The probability of severe thunderstorms is low.

Showers and thunderstorms are likely on Saturday in association with a cold front forecast to move through the region. While widespread severe weather is not expected, isolated severe thunderstorms are possible. Damaging winds and large hail would be the main hazards with any severe thunderstorms.

CENTRAL LOUISIANA: Today has a 30 percent chance of showers throughout the day. Saturday has a 70 percent chance of daytime thunderstorms and partly cloudy in the evening. Sunday and Monday will be mostly sunny during the day and clear to cloudy in the evenings. Tuesday is forecasted to have a 20 percent chance of showers throughout the day.

NORTHERN LOUISIANA: Today has a 20 percent chance of daytime showers and thunderstorms with an increase to 60 percent in the evening moving on into Saturday. Sunday and Monday will be sunny during the day and cloudy on Sunday evening. Monday night on into Tuesday is forecasted to have a 20 percent slight chance of shower and thunderstorms.
Temperatures: Today: 74/56, Saturday: 61/36, Sunday: 59/40, Monday: 64/50, Tuesday: 70/62.
HAZARDOUS WEATHER: Scattered showers and thunderstorms will increase across southeast Oklahoma and the western sections of southwest Arkansas this evening along and ahead of a cold front and approaching upper level disturbance from the west. Although low level instability will be weak across these areas tonight, strong shear and instability aloft may yield a few isolated severe thunderstorms late, capable of producing large hail and damaging winds. However, organized severe weather is not expected. These showers and thunderstorms will develop farther south towards the Interstate 20 corridor of east Texas and north Louisiana late tonight, with brief heavy rainfall possible from the stronger storms.
