These showers and thunderstorms will become more numerous as they spread into northeast Texas and southwest Arkansas this afternoon and possibly northwest Louisiana tonight. While an isolated strong storm cannot be ruled out, organized severe weather is not expected with these thunderstorms given the limited instability in place. However, brief heavy rainfall may accompany some of the stronger storms, with rainfall amounts of one to two inches possible mainly north of a Jacksonville and Carthage Texas, to Shreveport and Minden Louisiana, to El Dorado Arkansas line.

Scattered to numerous showers and isolated thunderstorms will persist Thursday across northeast Texas, southeast Oklahoma, southwest Arkansas, and extreme northwest Louisiana, although a weakening trend is expected by afternoon. However, additional scattered to numerous showers will redevelop Thursday night as warm air overruns the cold front to the south of the area, and is enhanced by an upper level disturbance that will approach the region from the west. These showers will diminish from west to east Friday morning. Additional showers and thunderstorms will spread east across the region Monday, and could linger into Monday night ahead of another upper level storm system that will eject northeast across the southern plains.

HAZARDOUS WEATHER: Moisture will be returning during the week as the atmosphere becomes saturated as a surface low pressure develops over west Texas.  A warm front will lift north across the area, followed by a cold front near mid week as the surface low lifts northeast into the plains, and an upper level trough moves in from the southwest sections of the country. The western low will help bring in pacific moisture to combine with the returning gulf moisture. Showers and isolated thunderstorms will increase over the area and continue through late week.

HAZARDOUS WEATHER:  Numerous to widespread showers and isolated thunderstorms will increase from west to east across the area today as a cold front moves slowly east. No severe weather is expected although a few showers could produce locally heavy rainfall at times. Area rainfall totals of 1/2 to 1 inch will be possible with isolated amounts of 2 to 3 inches mainly north of a Silsbee to Opelousas line, with amounts of 1/2 inch or less south of this line.

These thunderstorms could result in rainfall amounts of one to two inches and isolated higher amounts. The rains will not be as heavy overnight, but the ever increasing soil moisture can reach saturation, resulting in flooding and flash flooding of low lying and poor drainage areas.

There will be periods of rain with embedded thunderstorms, some of which may contain locally heavy rainfall that will be decreasing over most of the region with the exception of parts of lower northwest and north central Louisiana, on Tuesday.  After the rains end, cold air will continue to spread over the area with freezing temperatures returning during the overnight and early morning hours mid to late week, with below normal daytime temperatures expected to persist throughout much of this week and weekend.
