HAZARDOUS WEATHER: Friday, a strong upper level storm system will move into the southern plains during the day. Increasing atmospheric instability and strengthening wind shear profiles will be favorable for a few strong thunderstorms by Friday afternoon, but the bulk of any thunderstorm activity is expected to remain west of the area. Friday night, a slight risk of severe thunderstorms is expected throughout the night as the upper level storm system moves closer to the area. Large hail, damaging winds and isolated tornadoes will be possible, with the highest risk across the lakes region of southeast Texas. A slight risk of severe thunderstorms will be seen across the entire area on Saturday as a cold front moves across the region. Large hail, damaging winds and isolated tornadoes will be possible. The risk of severe weather will come to an end late Saturday afternoon and early evening as the cold front moves rapidly eastward away from the area.
The Atchafalya River at Morgan City is currently at 5.26 feet (Minor flood stage). Minor flood stage is from 4 to 7 feet. The river is expected to fall to about 4.4 feet by Saturday. At 4 to 5 feet, water may move up the bank and across access roads below the city dock.
SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA: Today and tomorrow will be sunny during the day and cloudy in the evening. There will be a 30-40% chance for thunderstorms Friday with an increase to 70% chance for Saturday. Sunday is forecast to be sunny.
