Dec. 22, 2009 - Weather alert for Thursday

SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA: Today will be partly cloudy turning to a 20% chance for showers tonight. There will be a 20-90% chance for showers and thunderstorms Tuesday through Thursday with conditions clearing up for Thursday night through Saturday. Daytime temperatures be in the upper 60s to lower 70s today through Thursday then fall to the mid to lower 50s Friday and Saturday. Nighttime temperatures will go from the mid to upper 50s tonight through Wednesday then fall to the low 40s to upper 30s Thursday and Friday.
HAZARDOUS WEATHER: A strong cold front is expected to move through the area Thursday. A squall line will likely accompany this front and strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible. The main threats will be damaging straight line winds with isolated tornadoes possible. Recent heavy rainfall has resulted in very saturated soil across the area. This may lead to a higher than normal potential for shallowly rooted trees to be uprooted by strong winds. Additionally heavy rain will be possible with the highest Accumulations along and north of Interstate 12.
