Dec. 8, 2009 Weather Report

The next round of weather that will affect Louisiana this afternoon is projected to be a slight threat to Louisiana overall and is mainly expected to be a high wind/isolated tornado event for the State overall. However, for the southeast portion of the State, there is a higher chance for substantial rain that could compound the flooding experienced from last night’s rainfall. Details of the weather for each region of the State are provided below:


Below is the latest we have from the NWS (all stations) for this afternoon’s
weather.


The next round of weather that will affect Louisiana this afternoon is
projected to be a slight threat to Louisiana overall and is mainly expected
to be a high wind/isolated tornado event for the State overall. However, for
the southeast portion of the State, there is a higher chance for substantial
rain that could compound the flooding experienced from last night’s
rainfall.

Details of the weather for each region of the State are provided below:

Southeast:
Thunderstorms will being between noon and 2 PM and are expected to be
through Baton Rouge by 9 PM and out of New Orleans by midnight. This system
could bring 1-2 inches of rain with some local areas getting up to 3 inches.
The major impact is expected along I-12 north, to include Baton Rouge. There
is a 30% chance for damaging winds north of I-12 and 5-15% for all other
areas of the region. There is also a 2-5% chance for isolated tornados in
the region increasing to a 10% chance along the Mississippi/Louisiana border
in the extreme northern portions of the Florida parishes (West Feliciana,
East Feliciana, St. Helena, Tangipahoa and Washington). Flash flooding is
also a slight possibility.

Southwest and Central:
The system should move through the southwest and central part of the State
between noon and 3 PM. There is a slight risk for severe weather mainly for
areas north of I-10 from the Texas border to just east of Lafayette and
south of I-10 between Lafayette Parish and Baton Rouge down to about Morgan
City.

North:
Mainly scattered showers and thunderstorms are being experienced and/or
projected through this evening. Rainfall amount expected is less than ½
inch. There is only a slight chance for local, isolated tornados, hail, or
any severe weather for this region.
